"Who is she?" asked Alex, snapping me out of my thoughts as we ate breakfast.
"Huh?", I had only heard the question with half an ear and needed to know if he had said anything more.
"You're just so absent minded when you think about a woman. So. who turned my brother's head?"
"No one.", I furrowed my eyebrows "And I'm not absent at all."
"Yes you are. And you're always like this when you meet a woman you're interested in. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. So. who is she?"
"There is no woman. I'm just worried about my new chief mechanic and she ..."
"So a woman after all." smirked Alex.
"Yeah, but... that's different. Kariss is great, but..."
"Kariss? That's an unusual name. Is she pretty?"
"She is, but that's not the point right now. I'm worried because..."
"Do you like her?", I could tell he had a pretty firm opinion on that.
I let my head sink forward. I was really worried about her, because even though she had smiled when we had been in the raspberry field, I wasn't sure how long that smile had lasted.
If I had been in her place, it probably wouldn't have been long. It had made me sad how her friend's friend had treated Kariss yesterday. And it had honestly been a mystery to me how her boyfriend hadn't seen that. It seemed to have been perfectly normal for him. Completely in order. While my collar had almost burst.
But I had restrained myself, so we didn't know each other that well yet and above all I did not know her boyfriend yet and did not know how he would have reacted to it. Because while she had come across to me as very quick-witted and easy-going, it had been somehow different in the company of the two.
Kariss had been stiffer. Calmer. Her smile seemed to have stayed in the box.
That worried me. This sudden change.
"And again you're off with your thoughts." laughed Alex "So I think I can tell you like her. Am I getting to know her?"
"Why don't you come by my stall," I ran my fingers through my hair. Alex wouldn't rest anyway if I didn't introduce her to him.
Maybe then he would realize that he was wrong about my feelings towards Kariss....
Whereby he was not completely wrong. I already liked her and she was definitely in my thoughts.
In spite of her boyfriend.
It had been a bit of a disappointment when he had shown up in our box.
It felt strange, but I didn't like her having someone by her side. Which it seriously would have been worse if a woman like her had been single.
Damn. I had to stop my thoughts a bit, get down. I was clearly thinking too far. And too much about her.
"I'll come with you right away. I'm sure she's already there.", Alex smirked smugly, then leaned back in his chair.
"I'm sure she is," I nodded.
Alex and I reached my stall and it was already quite busy. My team members were scurrying around doing all sorts of things.
My gaze slid through the people until I could see Leo and Kariss. The two of them had their heads together and seemed to be discussing something very intensely. They kept looking up from the IPad as they talked.
