Bethany
Everyone is partnered up, sitting at their desks and I am standing here like an idiot. The eyes of my classmates are all locked on me until Professor Tate walks into the room, then their attention is on her.
"I see you all got your assignments. Perfect—"
"I don't have one," I say, interrupting her.
She looks at me from over the thick blue frames of her glasses. "Just take a seat."
I do as I'm told. Great. Just great. I'm the only one without a partner. I was assigned one. I saw his last name on my course page, so I know I have one. This better not mess up my grade.
"Sorry, I'm late." The door to the classroom swings open and my head snaps up.
No.
He walks over to me.
No. No. NO.
He sits at the desk next to me, the only empty desk left, adjusting the black beanie on his head. Some of his blond hair pokes out the brim.
"You—" I hiss under my breath.
His head snaps towards me and all of the color drains from his face. "You," he mumbles back. I don't miss seeing him place his hand over his crotch.
"Ah, now that all of you are in your assigned groups, we can begin." Professor Tate beings her lecture but I can't hear a thing.
My heartbeat is ringing in my ears. Of all the people at this university, why did it have to be him? Him. The guy that stole my first kiss. The arrogant prick that thinks it okay to just go around kissing random women. The—
"I'm Kaden," he says, pulling me from my raging thoughts. His elbow is on my desk and his hand is raised, waiting for me to shake it.
I ignore the gesture. "I know who you are. I saw your name on my course page."
"And you're..."
Of course, he doesn't know my name. Jerk.
"Bethany," I scoff, crossing my arms over my chest.
He doesn't say a word. For now. And I am able to focus on the lecture. I jot down notes from the PowerPoint slides and honestly forget Kaden is sitting next to me. Until he opens his mouth and says, "My balls are okay, in case you were wondering."
The pen I'm holding falls out of my hand. I don't bother picking it up off the floor and clench my fist around nothing, holding it on top of my notebook.
"That's too bad," I chide under my breath and smirk a little.
"I could've had serious damage."
"And yet I don't think that would stop you from using that thing." My nose twists. I'm trying my hardest to focus right now, but I can't.
"That thing is my pride and joy."
Gross.
I look at him and he's smirking. He's not being serious.
"I think you need to apologize to it."
My brows etch together. How old is this guy? Six? He's talking about his penis like it's his best friend... Maybe it is.
All of a sudden, probably from seeing the horrified look on my face, Kaden bursts out laughing. All heads turn towards us.
"Mr. Kell," Professor Tate snaps.
"Sorry, I'm sorry," he responds on a laugh, clutching his stomach, calming himself. Everyone gets back into the lecture but not him, he's staring at me again. "I can't believe you thought I was serious."
