Kaden

The dew on the grass soaks through my hair as I lay on my back, clutching a bag of ice against my groin. Fuck, this hurts. Each breath sends shooting pain up my stomach. My face contorts with pain as I adjust myself on the ground.

A black sky surrounds us. Occasionally exploding with color as people set off fireworks. It's a nice distraction from the pain pulsating through my little friends down south.

"I can't find Jace anywhere. I guess he left already," Asher says, sitting on the curb next to me.

"How are your balls feeling?" Valerie asks but not in a 'I really want to know how you're feeling' kind of way.

"Please be quiet," I groan back in response. Shutting my eyes, I rest my free hand on my forehead.

"I'm just asking a question—"

"Shut your mouth." I use my hand to mimic a mouth closing.

"Kaden I—"

"Shut—shut your mouth."

She doesn't say another word. And I swear a little bit of the pain subsides from not hearing her annoying voice.

"Why don't I just drive us all back to the apartment," Tyler says. "I don't think Kaden is in the mood to go to the club." I hear him choke back a laugh.

It's not that funny. Some chick kicked me in the balls. Could've happened to anyone.

"No, we are going out. I just ordered the Uber" Valerie whines.

The last thing I want to do is go to a club, especially with Valerie. But just because my night went to shit, I don't want to spoil theirs. I'll have enough time to ice my balls after this night gets redeemed.

Breaking our silence, Ty's phone rings.

"Hadley?" He asks himself before silencing the ringing by answering it. "What's up?" He pauses and I tilt my head up at the silence to look at him "Okay, what? Calm down I can't understand—" Panic washes over his face. "Oh, fuck. Don't... No just breathe, okay?" His hands run through his light brown hair and over his face. "You need to calm down. Don't drive until you relax." I'm sitting up fully now. "I'm heading to your place now. Be careful." He hangs up the phone and turns his attention to us. "Gotta go, guys."

"Wait, Ty," Valerie says, grabbing his arm as he tries to walk away.

"What's going on?" Asher asks, standing.

Ty shakes his head. "Something happened tonight. Loni... Someone drugged her, I don't know. Jace went to get her. Hadley just called me in hysterics. I have to go."

The pain I was feeling turns completely numb. Loni is Jace's girlfriend. Well, actually I'm not really sure what they are, but he loves her. It's obvious. I can't imagine what's going through his head right now.

While I was at this party, worrying about some stupid kiss, Loni was... Fuck, I can't even think about it. Who could do something like that? It makes me sick.

"I have to go," Tyler says again.

"TT, come on the Uber will be here soon."

Oh shit.

I've seen Tyler get angry before, but this is different. His blue eyes practically turn black and his entire body tenses up.

"My sister needs me right now—"

"Hadley can take care of herself. You know how she is. She likes to overexaggerate everything. You promised we would hang out tonight."

He rips his arm out of her grip.

"Oh shit," Asher murmurs under his breath.

"I don't really give a fuck what I promised you. My sister needs me."

"Don't do this, Tyler."

He points his finger at her, clenching his teeth before he speaks so he doesn't complexly blow up. "We will talk about this later." He runs towards the parking lot before she can say another word.

She scoffs, turning towards Asher and me. "Was I wrong?"

She's really an idiot if she thinks we are going to side with her right now. Tyler is too good. If I were in his position, I would've broken up with her right here, right now.

"Whatever. The three of us can enjoy the rest of the night without him."

Pain settles back into my balls and I lay back down in the grass. Now I'm kind of wishing that girl's kick knocked me the fuck out.

Our Uber pulls up soon after Tyler leaves us and we get in. Valerie is sitting in the front while Asher and I are in the back. I lean my head against the cool window and close my eyes while Valerie starts rambling.

"You good?" Asher asks when I toss the melted bag of ice on the seat.

I nod.

Valerie snorts from the front seat and I open my eyes. She twists her body so she can look back at me. I raise my brows at her, waiting for her to speak like I know she wants to.

"I've gotta say, you kind of deserved that." She glances down at my crotch and then back up to me with a smirk. "You kissed a girl out of the blue against her will." She adjusts herself in her seat to look forward again. "In my opinion, you are no better than the person who drugged Loni tonight."

I hate her. I fucking hate her. How dare she. How dare she compare the two situations. How could someone be so vial to use something so heinous that happened to my friend as a way to hurt me? Fuck her. I love Tyler. But she is dead to me.

It was just a little kiss. Something so harmless to me... But what about for her? Now I feel like a dick. Thanks, Val.

"Nice," Asher grunts, rolling his eyes.

"I'm just speaking the truth."

"Hey, driver," I call out, resting my knuckle against my mouth. "Change of plans. Take me the fuck home."
