"Damn! You caught one Yule!" My fishing buddy laughed. He wiped an invisible tear off his face as he continued to glance at my fish I caught. "It's so tiny!"

I rolled my eyes annoyingly. "But for my first time it's ey-okay? Right?" I added hoping that it would make the man stop laughing at me

"Yeah it's good. " He replied as his laughter died down. He grabbed the fishing net and held it towards my freshly caught fish. The fish flopped into the net and there Finn unhooked the poor fish and dumped it into the bucket with the other two fish caught.

"I think that's enough fishing for today, I don't want to fish the entire ocean." He hummed. Finn leaned back into a relaxed position and closed his eyes. I could only assume he was taking in the sweet smell of the salty water and the gentle breeze that passed by.

I sat there gazing at the vast ocean blue. I saw a school of a small fish pass by. Their beautiful colors definitely blew my mind away. I never saw such beautiful species of animal look so tranquil.

Before I knew it the day was coming to a close end as I saw the sun set down. I looked over my shoulder to see Finn still asleep. Great! Only he knew how to drive the boat and sadly this guy slept like a rock. I nudged his side hoping to cause something but nothing. I nudged him once more and the guy stirred for a bit before being to rocked back to sleep by the oceans gentle waves. I loved the ocean but the fear of drowning in it felt so alive.

I heard a splash which caused me to avert my gaze from Finn to the disrupted water. As I thought about it, I didn't want to get killed by a shark or any underwater predator.

I shook Finn more violently this time hoping to cause something but no avail. I heard the splash once more coming from the left side before I heard it again on my right side. I would lying if I said I wasn't afraid because sure as hell I was. I didn't want to die, not today anyway!

"C'mon Finn wakey wakey!" I cried I shook him again, but that's when I heard it. A sweet sound. It sounded beautiful, and so harmonious. I looked around trying to detect what sang this melody. I looked around the boat for anything that can hoist someone up. I stood up and threw the one end of the rope in the water. I continued to take off my shirt. I tried to stop but it felt like my refusals were weakened. It felt like someone was controlling me. But that's when I heard it a splash beside the boat that broke the  trance. I saw myself of the edge of the boat before a gust of wind blew towards me. I could feel myself fall. As I waited for my watery death to come, it was stopped.

"Yule!" I heard Finn shout. He grabbed my wrist and yanked me towards him. He breath was heavy and frantic. "What's wrong with you? You can't swim so why were you trying to dive into the water?" He shouted. "If I hadn't woken up you would have died!"

I brain was fuzzed and my eyesight was blurry. "Put your shirt back on I don't want you freezing yourself to death!" He said tossing me my shirt. "And where's the fish we caught?" He shouted again. "They are gone!"

I put a hand on my pounding head. The fish were gone and I nearly died if it wasn't for Finn. The melody blasted throughout my head getting louder and louder. "Jeez! Get out!" I shouted. It played in my head for what felt like forever until it died down.

"Yule what happened when I was out?" He asked. "The fish are gone and you nearly died. This isn't a 'it was nothing' case."

"I don't know. I can't remember. All I remember was a distant song growing loud and the water splashing." I replied, clutching my head. He huffed before sitting back down and turning on the motor.

"I'll take our leave. I guess we won't be eating dinner tonight. You have to settle with frozen burgers for losing our dinner." He sighed, a bit annoyed at me. It wasn't my fault.

The time passed as we made way to the shore. Once we arrived, I tied the boat to the dock before catching up with Finn, who was carrying the empty bucket. "Finn!" I shouted. He turned slightly before grumbling to himself.

"What?" He groaned, setting the buckets in his fishing shack.

"It wasn't my fault! I don't know happened the thing seems like a blur to me. I can't remember." I tried to explain. I expected a scolding but what I did get was hand on my shoulder. I flinched.

"Look, Yule, I'm not mad at you but I am annoyed a bit. I don't really care that much about the fish. I'm just glad you didn't drown." He explained. I nodded. He let out a sigh before continuing, "Besides I installed camera's in the old gal for our fishing adventures. So whatever happened it should have been caught by the camera. We'll check it out tomorrow, but for now you eat and then rest till morning."

I nodded. We both continued to our way to Finn's fancy cottage. For some background knowledge, Finn's family is super wealthy. Finn was there only child so their riches would be passed down to him. Sadly, one day his parents died of old age and he was left with the all the money. Finn was determined to continue gaining wealth so when he had children they could spilt the money and live a good life. So what he did was open a Seafood Restaurant. This man was born with raw talent for cooking so his restaurant started booming with customers. Let's just say that that boomed his economic state. He's really wealthy. So how did I meet him? Well, unlike him I came from a poor family. We made a business in hope for a big break. It kind of worked? We set up a boat building shop. Since Finn loved fishing he decided to buy himself a boat. But every store he went to they didn't have a boat he wanted so when he heard of a new boat building company he decided to check it out. At that point, I  was working as the entail person, the person who explained to our customers what type of boat they wanted or what we could build.

That day Finn ordered 4 boats to be built. He left a hefty tip by the end of everything because of the fantastic job we did. That lifted us from our debt we obtained. After that, Finn continued to recommend us so our family name started to be heard. We bumped into eachother a couple of times before he invited me to go fishing with them. We instantly hit it off and that's how we became friends.

Crazy right? I figured. "Hey Yule. C'mere" he said. I walked to his room where I saw him on his laptop. "I was to curious to wait till tomorrow so I started to watch the footage. You won't believe what it caught."

I raised my brow before walked towards him. I loomed over his shoulder as he pointed to the screen.

"Here, I'll replay this part and I want you to tell me what you hear and see, okay?" He said, "I'll turn up the speaker." I nodded. The mouse moved to click the play button and there the video played.

A low screechy yet melodious sound was heard in the distance of the footage. My eyes locked with a strange  creature that appeared for brief second before dipping its head back into the water. The camera's lens soon cracked after what looked like a scale-y clawed finger touched it.

"What the hell was that?" I mumbled to myself.

Finn looked up at me nodding, "That's what I said. This is only seconds before you got up, that is according to the footage."

I nodded. What on earth was that? I licked my dried lips before opening my mouth, "You don't think that was a mermaid, do you?"

He raised his brows. "There is a low scientific possiblity but a high one according to this," He explained. I nodded.

"If that was a mermaid what do you think caused them to move somewhat near shore?" I asked. Finn sighed, tensing his shoulder.

"So they could have been separated from their pod during the storm that appeared a day ago, that is saying if mermaids are social creatures. I'm guessing there were two by the looks of it and attacked due to the lack of food despite there being lots of active fish in the area. If it was one then that one is hella lost. If they are solitary creatures then I'm not sure. They could have wandering looking for food, again, I'm not so sure." He explained. I nodded wearily. What a night.

"We'll do more analyzing tomorrow it's 11 already so we should head to bed." He said. I nodded once more before exiting his bedroom and heading to mine .

What hell of a night.
