Her eyes were filled with a lot of emotions. I noticed that. With every step she took, her legs would shake slightly. With every breath and blink she would push down any emotion that dared to come out.
The drive was fine. Long, yes. But fine. When we arrived Caleb and Luke got out of the car fast. Elijah followed. Athena barely moved.
I thought about getting out but stopped myself.
"I could still run you know" she said wiping a tear I didn't even notice. "You don't have to be brave for me" I say. She looks taken back.
"I am brave" she says as she exits the vehicle.
"Looks like nothing changed" she says looking at her brothers and the mansion. "The outsides never do" Elijah says as we all start walking towards the door, including the people from the other car. Clara, Lorenzo, Grayson, Leonardo and William. Michael also crawled out from the trunk.
We enter and are greeted with three men. Her three eldest brothers. Athena looks at them emptily. Dylan was the first to move. He hugged her. She didn't push him away. Surprisingly.
"Took you some time" Chris says harshly. "I can always go back" she threatens him which doesn't seem to amuse her brothers as much as it does me.
"I'll be in my office. I assume I have one. And if I don't...I'll get one" she says walking past them.
Bitch went back to being cold. Good for her.
"That is not how this was supposed to go" Alex says rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Her mood switches faster than I blink" Caleb admits.
Now it is just awkward silence. The Carpenters stare at the men, including me, their sister had brought along.
"Feel free to pick a guest room" Dylan says looking at all of us individually.
I of course am the first one up the stairs. Looking at the doors in front of me I pick the one closest to the siblings' rooms hallway. Just in case.
"You'd think they would think about the fact that you're a working woman but noooo, they don't even bother to set up an office for me which considering how much they looked for me is utterly disrespectful" Athena speaks as she makes her way to me obviously pissed off.
"Which door?" she asks me. I point to the first one. She nods and continues her walk downstairs probably to yell at somebody.
I can't with that woman, she truly does change moods like socks.
I decided to actually have a look at the room I picked. It was grand. I wonder who decorated it. I would've probably dwelled on that for some more time if I hadn't heard glass breaking downstairs followed by feminine yelling- no, screaming.
I make my way down to the living room and sure enough miss Carpenter herself is standing in the middle of glass shards yelling at her brothers. Except Elijah. He is protectively in her corner. Caleb is standing away from them all and my friends are at the other end of the room looking confused as fuck.
"Can you please not smash another glass?" Dylan says as the woman picks up another one of the many glasses lined up next to her.
