I would have sold my kidney for a bottle of wine right now.

"Ms. Foster can u scoot up a bit on the bed?".

I was trying to imagine the sweet aroma of a nice glass of vintage merlot when suddenly I was dropped like a bad habit to reality,

"Ms. Foster, Please turn to the left slowly, perfect, now, gently spin to the...' her speech trailed off. I watched tentatively as the doctor went through a wide range of emotions in less than 2 minutes as she ran the lubricant across my swollen stomach.

"Is something wrong?"

I could not help the worry I started feeling for this little shit, Afterall I was one month away from my due date. I watched as she covered my exposed torso with a white sheet, then calmly, she placed her hand on my shoulder & said

"I will be right back" giving away absolutely no emotions

"I'm stepping out for a moment."

Stepping out for a moment? I am sorry but stepping out for a moment with no explanation, no reason, just stepping out for a moment!? What in the insanity is this?' I laid completely still & stared at the ceiling for a moment asking myself 'How did I get here?' It must have been about 6 mins when I heard the door open & a male Dr came into view. "Hello Ms. Foster, how are you feeling today?" I watched as the previous Dr stood looking at the monitor again then replied,

"Nothing much! Just, u know laying around"

He then picked up the transducer;

"My name is Dr Lennox & I'll be doing a little thorough check on your bundle today",

I replied,

"Ok is something wrong?"

"Welp, we don't know yet, that's why I'm here to take a closer look!"

At this point I think he could sense my irritation coming on when suddenly we heard a knock on the door & he shouted

"You may come in"

Then in popped my mom's head with the biggest smile I have ever seen I shouted with relief

"Hi mom!" I gushed

She came & gave me the warmest hug ever, then Demetri followed suit.

He stopped to look at the doctor pressing against my torso very intently as if my stomach was an egg & with the firmest voice I have ever heard, he asked,

"Is my child ok?"

The doctor ignored him for a moment. Is his child, ok? As if I'm not here incubating his bloodline, hello am I the fuck, ok? My legs are swollen, my clothes don't fit, I walk extra slow & yet I wonder Am I invisible? then finally placing the transducer in his associate's hand he cleared his throat & replied;

"Ms. Foster & Mr. Carter, your babies are ok, we just detected another heartbeat since your last ultrasound, it appears your baby girl was hiding from us all this time!" he finished with a smile.

Did he just say BABIES? As in 1,2? As in plural? As in not one siren but two? What the hell do we know about babies in the 1st place? All I could do was stare at him.

It was obvious he realized that the room had gone silent as my mother was staring with her mouth wide open with a stupidly excited look in her eyes & Demetri stared at my belly with a straight look on his face. Then to make the situation more laughable the doctor uttered

"Congratulations!"

Can someone please tell him to read the room!!
