My phone began to ring, breaking the comfortable silence. I saw that my mother was video calling me. I asked Kiyoomi to let me go and I slid off his lap answering the phone. My mother’s smiling face was the first thing I saw. “Shirai, how are you? Your father and I want you two to come over for dinner next week!” I smiled and nodded my head. Kiyoomi leaned his face into view and my mother’s smile grew brighter. “Your boyfriend is so sweet and handsome I want to speak with him please.” I sighed looking over to Kiyoomi for his consent. He shook his head and got up to walk towards the kitchen. “Sorry he’s busy right now.” She sighed before saying goodnight. I heated up some leftovers for us and began eating. Kiyoomi poured two glasses of juice and sat near me eating. After that I brushed my teeth and headed to bed. Laying there I sighed thinking about today’s events. Kiyoomi came in afterwards and laid next to me. I turned to face him and asked, “Are you alright with meeting my parents?” He sighed, pulling me into his chest and kissing my forehead. “Not really, but you got to meet mine so it’s alright.”

A few days passed by and it was the day Kiyoomi and I would have dinner at my parent’s place. I rushed home from work as soon as my shift ended. Showering and dressing I sat waiting Kiyoomi’s return. He had extra practice today since he’d be having a match in a week. “Click!” I heard the door unlock and Kiyoomi’s exhausted gaze met mine. “You look like you saw a ghost.” I snickered. Kiyoomi shrugged off his jacket walking towards me and sighing loudly as his heavy body covered mine. “I feel like shit.” He groaned. “Well you can feel like shit later, go wash up we gotta get to my parent’s house.” Walking past me he headed towards the bathroom. I sat scrolling on my phone before Kiyoomi called out to me. “Let’s go” I stood there seeing him in a grey dress shirt and black jeans. “You put so little effort into this.” My lips curled slightly. “It’s not like I need to impress them.” He groaned picking up his car keys and pulling me towards the open door. As we arrived at my parent’s home I could see a familiar car parked there also. My sister’s car. My face contorted to an angry scowl as I recognised my sister still lived with them. “Shirai” Kiyoomi called, “let’s go in.” I sighed getting out the car and walking towards the gate. Walking up a few steps, Kiyoomi rang the bell. As the door opened I was met with my sister’s face and I uncomfortably greeted her. Kiyoomi mumbled a ‘hello’ under his mask. “Shirai, it’s so good to see you again!” She said not even looking at me, she was eyeing Kiyoomi up and down as if he was a piece of meat. I pulled Kiyoomi past her and we headed towards the kitchen. I saw my mother buzzing around from the stove to the countertop and fridge. “Well you’re working hard.” I smiled widely. My mother looked up from the pot she stirred as she too grew a big smile. “Oh Shirai, and?” She gestured towards Kiyoomi. “Sakusa Kiyoomi, it’s nice to meet you again.” Kiyoomi bowed and greeted. My father came in just a while later and looked at both Kiyoomi and I. “What’s up with the mask kid, you sick or something?” He questioned in a harsh tone. “Dad, don't be so rude.” I sighed. “Honey, this is Kiyoomi.” My mother introduced him in a sing-song voice. My dad stretched his hand for him to shake as Kiyoomi only stared at him. I nudged Kiyoomi a bit and he too stretched his hand and shook my dad’s own. My sister came waltzing into the room and stood on the other side of Kiyoomi. “Why don’t you four go in the living room and chat while I finish dinner.” My mother suggested. My dad groaned leaving the room as we followed behind him.
