You tapped your foot on the floor, staring at the 'WELCOME LEON' banner from the desk.

"How you holdin' up, kid?" David asked, standing from his desk.

"Oh, I'm okay. A little sad I don't get to meet the rookie," you sighed.

"You told him to stay away?" David asked, pulling a chair up to your desk.

"This is no job for a rookie, David. Who am I to dump this on him? I'll just call him when it all sorts out."

"But now you have no partner," David chuckled.

"Now I have no partner."

You both turned back to the banner.

"You think he's handsome?" David asked, and you slapped his shoulder. "What?!" He laughed. "The force is how I met my wife. We were partners."

"Save it, Romeo," you chuckled. "I don't know. He's just about a year younger than me. File reads he has blonde hair and blue eyes."

David wiggled his brows, and you shook your head at him.

"I'm not really looking right now," you lied through your teeth, and David gave you a look. "Okay, maybe I am. But what if he's gay?"

"Girl," David gave you another look.

"Okay, you two," Marvin laughed, standing from his own desk. "Time to get to work."

"Yeah, guys," Elliot stretched. "Rita went to get coffee."

"You're not seriously thinking of going, are you?" David was appalled, his hands covered in blood.

"I have to," you argued, pulling your hair back. "There could be people outside the city trying to get in. Or more survivors! I could bring them here."

He called your name, grabbing your cheeks.

"It's too fucking dangerous."

"I'm a woman, David. I'm dangerous," you pat his arms, and he let you go. "I'll be back, I swear."

You exited the building, the sheriff 's car waiting just outside the gate.

"Hey, Sam. Carl."

"Hi," Sam looked around uneasily, gripping his steering wheel. "Fuck, are you sure? You don't have to help us out today. I saw... one of those things."

"Yeah," Carl agreed as you buckled your seatbelt. "Maybe you should stay where it's safe. We can handle the 911 calls today."

"Don't be silly, boys," you shook your head. "Chief had assured me he's got everything under control."

"How can you say that?!"

You stared at Carl.

"There's literal body bags outside the office!"

"Carl," you called. "Crime doesn't sleep. You can't ignore it. For some people, this is the perfect opportunity."

Both men sighed, rubbing their temples.

"Women."
