10:00 PM
"I found the weapons card!"
You turned around at Leon's cheer, and you smiled.
"Thank God," you chuckled. "We'll head that way in a bit. Let me just..."
You picked up the statues left arm, which was just laying around for some reason, and placed it back onto him. You studied it.
"It's missing something... the book!"
You grabbed the arm and slipped the red book into it, and a low rumbling was heard. In moments, the statues right arm twisted and opened, allowing you to grab the scepter that was once in its clutches. You studied the scepter, before finding a switch on the back, and flicking it. In a moment, the jewel was released, and —
"What's that?" Leon asked, looking up.
You heard it too. It sounded like an aircraft.
Shit. 73-Bird.
You and Leon dashed out of the art room, just in time to see a bright light flash through the window of the fire escape. You slowly prowled closer, worried for Claire and her safety, but not too keen on dying, either. You pushed open the fire escape door, and Leon followed behind as you clambered down the stairs, giving the helicopter sticking out of the building a mournful look. No way anyone survived that.
"HEY! LEON!?"
You scrambled over.
"Claire?" You asked, dashing over to the fence. "Thank God you're alive."
She yanked at the gate, her clothes soaked by rain .
"Claire... It is so nice to see you," Leon smiled, and something... became ablaze in your stomach.
"How're you guys doing? That helicopter just came out of nowhere."
"Yeah, I'm in one piece," Leon responded, a stupidly dorky smile on his face.
Why doesn't he look at me like that?
"I'm guessing you don't have have a key in one of those fancy pockets?" Claire asked, pulling on the gate again.
"No," you sighed. "I'm sorry."
"But, how are you doing?" Leon was quick to add.
"You know," she sighed. "Just surviving."
They stared at each other for a long time.
"That's good," he chuckled finally. "Any luck with your brother?"
"No, not yet."
Holy shit, they fucking liked each other. You gaped, wondering how the hell they had already fallen for each other, and why you didn't like it.
They both slowly turned to you, your jaw still dropped.
"Is something wrong, Officer?" Claire asked.
You blinked. No way in hell it was just a kid thing. You were only a year older than Leon, and Claire didn't seem that young. Maybe they were still innocent. Being a police officer doesn't exactly help when it comes to a pure mind.
A sudden explosion sounded, and you whipped around.
A wave of anger swept through you, and you grit your teeth. Leon hurriedly wished Claire goodbye, trying to shoo her away before more zombies were attracted to the noise.
Why were you putting up with this shit? Why were you putting up with the rookie? You had gone six months without an official partner, and you had been just fine. When Claire finally dashed off, Leon turned around. He opened his mouth to speak, but you cut him off.
