The pounding ache in my head assaulted my senses as I slowly opened my eyes. Blinking away the leftovers of sleep, I found myself staring at an unfamiliar sight.
I lay there, naked and vulnerable, with remnants of my dress scattered on the floor. Confusion washed over me as I tried to piece together the events of the previous night.
My gaze shifted to the nearby drawer, where a glass of water and painkillers awaited me. Someone had thoughtfully left them there, yet no note escorted the gesture. I reached for the painkillers, grateful for their potential relief, and swallowed them with the water.
The throbbing in my head began to subside slightly, urging me to unweave the web of my fragmented memories. Pushing myself out of bed, I made my way to the bathroom, the cool tiles beneath my feet grounding me in reality.
I turned on the tap, and the sound of running water filled the room. As steam enveloped the space, I stepped into the warmth, hoping it would soothe both my body and my troubled mind. I closed my eyes, willing the memories to resurface.
Before I could delve further into my thoughts, a sudden knock on the door shattered the calm. Startled, I hastily wrapped a towel around myself and hurriedly left the bath, my thoughts still swirling in a chaotic dance.
It was Ava, standing at the door, her expression a mix of concern and anger. "Lilith! Where the hell were you last night? I told you to wait for me!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with frustration.
I stammered for a moment, caught off guard by her accusation. "I... I got cold and decided to take a taxi home," I replied, my voice shaky as I desperately tried to piece together a believable explanation.
Ava's eyes narrowed, suspicion evident in her gaze. "You know I don't buy that, Lilith. You wouldn't just leave like that without telling me. Something happened, didn't it? Tell me the truth."
A mixture of guilt and uncertainty flooded my being. How could I explain the inexplicable? The stranger, the intoxicating attraction, and the fragmented memories that danced just out of my reach.
"I... I don't remember," I finally confessed, my voice barely above a whisper. "Everything is hazy. I can't recall what happened after I left the club."
Ava's expression softened as she realized the genuine confusion that clouded my mind. "Oh, Lilith," she murmured, a hint of compassion in her voice. "We'll figure it out together. But right now, let's focus on getting some breakfast in you. You need it."
She whisked past me into the kitchen, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air. As she prepared breakfast, she began recounting her adventures from the previous night, her words drifting into the background as my thoughts remained consumed by the enigmatic stranger who had ignited a whirlwind of emotions within me.
Who was he? What had happened between us? The questions echoed in my mind, growing louder and more insistent with each passing moment. I longed for answers, to uncover the truth that lingered just beyond my grasp.
