Standing against a tall, leafless tree; stood a boy with short black hair parted to the right. The final rays of sunlight covered his gloomy brown face as he looked at the brick houses lined up in his neighborhood, in deep thought. Oddly enough, the trees lined up surrounding his tree were blossoming light blue flowers that were designed intricately. He had the urge to pull out the stick in his bulging pants and make the flowers on his soulless tree emerge. He knew though, that if he did, he'd get into deep trouble since he had already gotten into trouble with the Ministry in the past. They definitely had Syed Istration on their radar. Another offense would require a 3 month wand confiscation and it was a day before he went back to Hogwarts.
Syed noticed a door on one of the houses in the neighborhood open suddenly. He erected his body off the tree when he realized whose house he was looking at: Phoenix Felicia's. He darted towards his house, stepping on dozens of blue petals along the way. Not paying attention, he ran onto oncoming traffic, and a red minivan's wheels being dragged against the ground an a car horn were the only sounds heard around the neighborhood. He kept running, waving off the frustrated driver rudely.
"YOU BEST CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF! I WILL FIND YOU!" came a loud yell from the driver.
Syed looked over to see where Phoenix was, and noticed her holding her stomach pointing and laughing at him, tears glimmering from her eyes.
When he opened the back door, hoping to sneak into his room, his mom's frantic yells could be heard.
"I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS HIM!" His parents were fighting again, so that the whole world could hear. The neighbors were always complaining about this. An advantage to Hogwarts was being away from this bickering an annoyance of the daily shouting contests his parents had. He'd rather be sitting in the Slytherin common room with a cup of tea, sharing an intellectual conversation with Matthias, or laughing at firstyears with Mikey. Thoughts of Hogwarts calmed Syed down to a degree of which the shouting didn't even enter his ears. All he knew was magic. That's all he wanted to know.Despite his tuning out the fight, Syed began to see purple flashs of light, and heard furniture crashing against walls. He ran over to the living room and yelled "EXPELLIARMUS!" His dad's wand flew up into the air and landed in a chandelier hanging from the high ceiling.
Syed looked around to see the couch ripped up, the lamp thrown across the room and smashed through the window, the TV sticking out of a hole in the wall, an more destruction caused by his dad's tantrum. His mom was sitting against the wall, her legs against her chest, hugging them, her hair a complete mess all over her face. Syed gave his dad a sorrowful look; motioning to his mom, as if he wanted him to feel bad for his actions. His dad walked out of the room with a dirty look on his face.
Syed walked over and sat beside her, wrapping his arms around her and resting his chin on her head. Syed could not be more happy to get away from this.
After calming his mother down as he always did, Syed went up to his room and sat on his bunk, stroking his cat, Dorian. He was quite lucky to have been adopted, but he wished he could just get away from these people already. They were no parents of his anyways. They just gave him a place to stay while he was away from his real home, Hogwarts. Luckily, tomorrow was the day he went back and he couldn't wait to get on that train...
