Larchkit went back to the nursery, seeing Mapleshade looking at the wall.
"Is everything okay?" The kit mewed. Mapleshade seemed to snap out of a trance, and she looked at Larchkit, Petalkit, and Patchkit.
"Yes," she purred. "Just thinking."
Larchkit blinked, and he padded up to Mapleshade, mewing, "We met this nice cat called Beetail, and he showed us around the camp! I saw this pool, and I wanted to go in, but Ravenwing stopped me!"
Mapleshade froze at the word "pool", and Larchkit looked at her. "What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing." Mewed Mapleshade. "I just felt a chill."
Larchkit shivered. It was leaf-bare, after all.
A/N: Was it leaf-bare when Larchkit, Petalkit, and Patchkit died?
Larchkit nodded, and he pressed close to his mother. He looked back in the dierection of the medicine den. "How long until we're apprentices?" He mewed. Mapleshade's heartbeat sounded in Larchkit's ear.
"About five more moons." She meowed coolly. Larchkit looked at Petalkit and Patchkit who were playing moss-ball together.
Larchkit padded towards them, climbing on top of their nest. "Can I play?" He meowed. Patchkit turned to look at him, and Petalkit dived to grab her brother's moss ball.
"Hey!"
"Yes," Petalkit mewed, triumphant.
Larchkit then grabbed the ball from Petalkit's paws, batting it into the air. He felt thorn-sharp claws dig into his belly as Petalkit tried to power herself up by jumping on him. He felt a raindrop on his nose, and he fell, suddenly feeling weird. He felt like there was water pressing in on him, smothering him, and then the kit blinked, and the moss ball was at his paws, with two unharmed kits standing in front of him, the water pressing into their pelts.
