Water.

It choked, and slithered everywhere across his body.

Larchkit opened his mouth to mewl for help, but water rushed in, strangling him, choking, until he couldn't breathe anymore. He felt something bump against him, but the light died, and darkness closed in on him.

Ha-ha, you thought Larchkit was dead! Just wait!

Larchkit felt voices chatter around him, and the world seemed blurry.

"Is he okay?"

"Milkfur, will they survive?"

"I don't know!"

Larchkit blinked, and he coughed, trying to get up. The whole world smelled of fish, and he felt furry lumps next to him. Something pushed him down gently, and he collapsed, feeling wet.

"Larchkit," someone snapped. He mewled pitifully, and he flopped over, seeing a tortoiseshell she-cat sniffing him. "What were you doing?" Mapleshade asked. "You almost drowned!"

"I--" he was cut off as he felt something wet slither on his head, and he felt his eyes go wide, and flashes of the dark depths of what had almost killed him flashed through his mind. "I was following Frecklewish," he coughed out.

He felt Mapleshade turn away from him, and she hissed, "Explain yourself, Frecklewish,"

"Now."
