Vinnie walked in the rain in the busy streets of Japan. Even with her hood over her head the rain still soaked through. Great, she thought to herself as she felt her socks soak from a seemingly shallow puddle. She kept walking till she found a bridge that crossed the river and sat on a dry patch of concrete underneath.
For someone who's sixteen, her life was pretty crappy right now. Both parents dead and being a runaway from a negligent aunt wasn't the best way to live, but she did what she could.
Two thousand yen. Not too bad. If spent well she would have food for about four days. Vinnie had learned to use her quirk to get money from others. And by 'get' that meant steal. The person she stole the money from probably didn't carry their cash with them a lot. It was still better than nothing though. She sat and listened to the rain, thinking about if she needed to rob another person to pay rent.
"Hi."
The voice of a girl startled her. She was about Vinnie's age, maybe a bit younger. She had blonde hair and creepy yellow eyes with dark circles making her look a bit insane. Vinnie was too busy analyzing the girl to respond.
"What are you doing out here in the rain?"
She could ask the girl the same thing, but judging by her uniform she was probably walking home from school. Vinnie cleared her throat.
"Just seeking shelter. Uh, you?"
"Same."
They sat in awkward silence a bit while Vinnie stashed away her yen in her hoodie pocket.
"Yea.. I gotta go, but it was nice seeing ya."
As Vinnie got up, she hit her head on the underside of the bridge and cut her forehead. Wincing, she wiped the new blood off her skin. The strange girl next her breathed a deep, shaky sigh.
"Did you just cut yourself?"
Vinnie wiped the rest of the blood with her sleeve. The girl stood up and came a bit too close for comfort.
"Yea, it's not too bad, though."
"Can I see it?"
Vinnie took a step back.
"Hey, it's not that big a deal."
"I said, 'let me see it!'"
The girl lunged at Vinnie with all her force, causing both of them to hit the ground.
"What the heck, you psycho?!"
Vinnie flexed her fingers sending purple strings from her fingertips. One of the strings wrapped the girl's wrist, prying it away from her own. Another string wrapped around her other arm allowing Vinnie to suspend the girl in the air. She got up and attempted to wipe the mud off herself while keeping a hold on the girl.
"Your blood looks so tasty.. I just want a little drop."
"You really are a psycho. I should just leave you here to die."
Vinnie knew she couldn't do that though since that meant detaching her strings, which would be a pain.
"Wait. Get me some blood and I won't try to drink yours"
Vinnie made a disgusted face, but she found it would be the best way to get out of this in the most painless way possible.
She looked around and found a nearby bird. She shot her strings at it from her other hand, this time squeezing it's neck until it stopped struggling. She set the girl down and placed the dead bird in her hands. The girl had a wide grin plastered on her face as she bit into it, splashing blood onto her face and clothes. Vinnie made another disgusted face and turned to leave.
"My name's Toga."
Vinnie really didn't want to know the name of this psycho girl, but it seemed the girl felt she just had to.
"What's your name?"
She paused and looked over her shoulder as Toga continued sucking on the bird.
"..Vinnie."
"Goodbye, Vinnie."
She continued to walk into the rain deciding to forget the blood thirsty girl.
