The journey back to Orynth was exhausting.
Ramiel had never thought that she would miss the solitude of her mountain home, but here she was. Having spent the last weeks constantly surrounded by people was infuriating. Not to mention the lack of privacy. At this point she wanted nothing more than to lock herself up in her rooms in the royal palace. Preferably with Fenrys.
Fenrys.
That was a topic that she avoided thinking about too much. Things seemed to be a bit tense between them now, even though he had stopped avoiding her. But they didn't even get the chance to talk about what had happened between them and the uncertainity she had felt ever since was driving her mad. The memory of the kiss replayed itself in her mind every time she closed her eyes, making her restraint weaker every day. Not to mention the primal fae instincts that came from the mating bond. They had laid dormant before, but were now wide awake, tugging at her every time she laid her eyes on Fenrys.
But the truth was, she wasn't even sure what she would say to him if she got the chance. He clearly still didn't know about their bond. Should she tell him? Or wait until he figured it out himself?
She didn't even know how to act towards him now. Maybe she was a coward, but she was actually thankful that she could avoid the subject a little while longer. And Fenrys didn't really look like he wanted to have that conversation either. He just rode alongside her, mostly quiet, his shoulders tense and eyes alert.
He knew as well as she did, that there were more pressing matters at hand than their relationship.
Now that they had the sword, it was only a matter of time when the legacies came for them. She just hoped they could find and destroy that ring before that happened.
They were on the road for weeks now, making their way towards Aelin's kingdom. And Ramiel was seriously considering just flying the rest of the way. If it wasn't for the fact that her damn shoulder was still sore, she probably would've.
It was no surprise that Ramiel almost sighed in relief the moment the opal towers of the royal palace of Orynth came into view.
"Do you think she will come?" Dorian's question broke the silence between them, as they made their way towards the main gates.
Ramiel knew who he was asking about. Manon.
Dorian had sent a message to her a week ago, asking her to come to Orynth. He thought that they could use her help as well, since she was a great fighter and apparently trustworthy.
Ramiel wasn't sure about the latter, but she didn't dare voice her thoughts. Dorian trusted the witch and that had to be enough. Besides, she had an inkling suspicion that her friend didn't want to get Manon here just to help them out. She suspected he had an ulterior motive, one that had to do with his recent discovery. So even though she wasn't sold on the idea of trusting a witch with her secrets, she wouldn't stand in Dorian's way. He deserved to be with the one he loved.
"She will come." Ramiel finally answered his question, turning her head to look him in the eyes, hoping that her gaze was conveying what she didn't say out loud. Manon will come, because it was you who asked.
Dorian didn't say anything else, but he sent her a small smile, as gratitude shined in his eyes. Their friendship, uexpected as it was, really bloomed those last weeks. Ramiel felt as if she had known Dorian for ages at this point. Actually, she had a theory that if Dorian shifted into a fae form, they could potentially be carranam. But she wasn't sure if it was even possible. So she didn't dare test that theory, or even speak up about it. It was a long shot, and if she was wrong, the consequences could be devastating.
