Phone call (009)TATUM'S POV
____________________I was awoken by the phone ringing, immensely. I immediately jumped up and woke Finney up. "What—what's going on?" Finney mumbles. "The phone." I whisper. I slowly get up, afraid to pick up the phone, but I do it anyway.
"Hello?" I say with static filling in the silence. "Is somebody there?" I ask. "I need help." My breathing starts to get heavy. "Hello?" I ask again.
"Tatum.." someone whispered into the phone with a raspy, hard voice. I immediately hung up the phone and jump back out of fear. The phone started started ringing again, nonstop. "Your turn!" I say to Finney and he gets up and answers it. "Don't hang up." A voice said. "I won't" Finney says nervously. "Who is this?" Finney asks. Im now sitting on the bed, biting my nails.
"I don't remember my name." The voice spoke, which caused me to look up from the ground. "Why not?" Finney ask's curiously. "It's the first thing you lose." The voice said. "First you lose when?" Finney said confused. "You know when." Suddenly, I feel extremely cold. Shivers went down my spine, and I got goose bumps. It felt like there was a ghost next to me.
"How do you know my name?" Finney asks making me snap back into reality. "We met once." "Your arm is mint." "You almost had me." The voice added on. "Bruce?" Finney says. I immediately look up. "No freaking way." I say shocked. "Bruce Yamada?" Finney questions the boy. "Yeah. Bruce." The boy said. "I'm Bruce." The boy once again said. "Your arm is mint." "You almost had me." He repeated. "My turn." I say getting up and grabbing the phone out of Finney's grip.
"Hey, it's Tatum." I say to Bruce. "Tatum— hi" bruce said nervously. "Did the phone ring for you?" I ask Bruce. "It rang, but none of us heard it." "Just you guys." He says. "The grabber hears the phone too, but he doesn't want to believe it." Bruce added. I raise an eyebrow. "Why are you calling us?" I ask him. "Finns arm is mint." "He almost had me." He repeated once more. "I'm glad it's you." He says. I smile at his words.
"Tatum?" Bruce says.
"Yeah?" I reply with a shaky voice.
"There's a dirt section of the floor where the tile is loose." He says, making sure I know exactly what he's saying.
"Okay." I say, letting him finish. "Dig down underneath the foundation." Bruce says, causing Finney to immediately whip his head that way. "I tried, but there wasn't enough time for me to dig up and out the other side." Bruce finishes, my heart was beating fast. "Will I have enough time?" I say with a voice crack, on the edge of tears.
The static drones, then the phone clicks, and then the static stops. "Hello?" I say shaking. "Bruce?" I say. "Bruce?" I repeated. There was nothing. I hung up the phone and look at Finney, who was staring at me cautiously. I immediately hugged him, and softly cried into his arms. He didn't say anything, he was just there.
"Let's go see if Bruce was right." Finney whispers in my ear, I nod and we walk over to the loose tile. Eventually, it opens up and we start digging with our hands.
We would pick up the dirt, and throw it down the toilet and flush, so there wouldn't be any evidence. Finney thought of that, very smart. I started to get tired, but didn't say anything, because I didn't want him thinking I'm weak.
He noticed that I stopped digging for a moment, and just took a deep breath. "If you're tired, go lay down." Finney said looking at me closely, I didn't dare to look back. "I'm fine." I mumbled, and started digging again. Eventually, Finney got thirsty, so he went over to the toilet and drank some of the toilet water. I also noticed I was getting thirsty as well. As much as I hate drinking that water, we had no choice. "Don't drink it all." I say panting, tired from all the digging. It was starting to get dark out, but that didn't stop me from digging deeper. Finney got tired, and tried to make me lay down with him, but I refused.
