-May,12,1812-

“Come on Henri! It’s time for dinner!” my sister called from the house. I was too busy holding a bug in my hands examining it crawl and fly away. Someone’s strong arms scooped me up I knew who it was.

“Papa! Put me down!.” I squirmed and he laughed heartily throwing me over his shoulder as he set off toward the house.

“John set him down!” my mother looked furious as she set out bowls for soup. I took my time and ate looking out the window watching the sun set and soon it was bed time.

“Henri. Come on it’s time for bed.” My sister called and patted her side of the bed we shared.

Catharine was five years older than me; thirteen and I was eight. She loved to help mother all the time and I worked taking care of the horses with Papa. I loved to take care of them and riding them into town or out into the field. Catharine was afraid of them but each had their own personality. I drifted to sleep and the next day will be the same, taking care of the horses and the farm.

-Morning-

I ate and quickly ran out to the stables I saw father making horse shoes for Hannah and Josie. My favorite of the two they were like twins; brown with white spots on opposite side of them.

“Henri, take Josie and go into town and get some oats for the horses.” he handed me some money and I went on my way into town. It was afternoon when I get there and people were running around, running errands. The shop smelled musky and wasn’t really full of life.

“Henri, I know what you’ve come to get!” the shop owner smiled and got the food. As I was walking out the shop I bummed into what looked like knights from the kingdom. How I admired them, but I never would become one. I am just a lowly peasant.

“oh look a young knight in the making.” I just smiled and wished I could wear the silver plated armor and the kingdoms famous seal. The ride home was normal until I saw fire in the distance and Hannah was running around free, Catherine was screaming and running toward me.

“Henri! T-the house…mom and dad are trapped in!” she cried as I went to our burning house. No one could imagine anything far worse than your own parents burning alive in a home you’ve come to love and grow in.

“Catharine..” looking over to her she didn’t move but just balled her eyes out, I took her hand and we started walking into town slowly; charred covered faces smudged with tears, as our feet bruised we heard galloping from behind us.

“You two!” it was the knight from earlier. Catherine started crying and begging. His expression changed when he saw the smoke in the distance and listened to what I had to say. One of the other knights got off their horse and Catharine and I rode on it into the kingdom..

-Gracefeild inn-

Night came and I sat outside with the horses talking to them, taking care of them as they should be.

“You’re strong Henri.” the knight from the shop came to my side and patted me on the head.

“You would be a good edition to the growing knights of Gracefeild. I’m Remy by the way.” he smiled. Soon we talked and I went to sleep.

-Morning-

We’ll be sent to work with the maids and I with the horses. This was how I came to love the stables.

“Henri. I don’t want to work here!” she yelled as the maids dragged her away. I rarely saw my sister after that.

[sorry it short!]
