While my mother was taking the pie out of the oven Billy rushed out of his room jumping around.
"I'm five!" "Yes you are, and just in time. Guess what mommy made you?" Rose said. "Apple pie?" Billy asked. "Yes dear. Sit down I'll cut you a piece." "Ok mommy."
Jane walked in from the porch with the mail and I walked over to her.
"What is it?" "Neighbor cookout, water bill, junk mail, and a letter from grandma and grandpa to Billy."
Rose snatched the letter and gave Jane a dirty look.
"Don't say that out loud. I don't want Billy to contact your grandmother. Ok honey here is your slice. Everyone sit down!"
Jane and I sat down at the kitchen table and all waited until Billy took his first bite. If he smiled that means mom did a good job, and she would be pleased for the next fifteen minutes.
"I love it mommy." "Thank you baby. Everyone can eat now."
We all ate the pie and after Jane had her first piece she began working on the pancakes and eggs.
"Sissy you're making pancakes!" Billy exclaimed. "Yes I am. It will be ready momentarily." "Are you excited for your part honey?" Rose asked. "Yeah. I invited Georgie, Andy, Mike, Tommy, and Louie. I'm so excited!" "I bet you are honey. Now finish your pie so you can eat breakfast before we get ready." "How are we getting there?" I asked. "April is going to pick us up in a few hours." "Alright then."
After breakfast I took a shower and got dressed into oversized jeans and put on my Black Sabbath t shirt. It was a long sleeves shirt with the picture on the front a little faded. I put on converse sneakers and waited on the couch until my mom was done getting ready. April pulled up on the side of our house. I let her in and she looked me up and down while rolling her eyes.
"Where is your mother?" "Getting ready." "Ugh fine I'll wait then. How's school Rob?" "It's fine." "Yeah? You staying out of trouble?" "I don't get myself into trouble." "Hmm. Don't try to act all high and mighty. When I was your age I was caught with my history teacher. God he was so fine too bad he's in jail now." "Great." "Anyways. How's that cute little fucker Billy?" "He's good." "God I can't believe he is turning five. I remember when he was so small."
Jane walked out of her room wearing jeans and a long sleeves shirt under a black shirt sleeved one. Her hair was up in a ponytail and her smiled dropped once she saw April.
"Hello Jane." "Hi April." "How is everything?" "Fine." "Good. I just can't wait to drive you guys to this party. And I promise I'm gonna try to convince your mother to get a car." "She doesn't have enough money." Jane said. "Oh well nothing but a few blow jobs won't fix her problem." "Alright that's enough April." I said. "What? I'm just talking with Jane mind your business!" "She's 8 years old she doesn't need to hear that shit." "Whatever. She's going to learn about it one day, might as well hurry up the process." "Enough. Can you just sit down and wait." "Fine. You're such a buzz kill."
April sat down and tapped her heels on the floor continuously until my mom came out of her room. My mom was wearing dark blue jeans, black tank top, and a leather jacket. Billy was wearing his cargo brown pants and a grey top.
"Holy fuck you look smoking. You gonna get all the dads attention." "How charming of you." Rose snarked.
"Everyone get in my car let's get this fucking party started!" April yelled.
We all went out to her car; a brand new BMW that her husband gifted her. It was dark red and she jumped into the car. There were cigarette butts everywhere and empty liquor bottles in the back seat. There was also a little smell of weed and ripped up clothes on the mats.
"Everyone put your seatbelts on I don't need any cop blaming me for you guys being idiots." April yelled.
We all put our seatbelts on and Rose went to the passenger seat. April put on the radio that blasted En Vogue so loud even the windows couldn't mellow the music. Once we finally arrived at the lake house an hour before the party my mother rushed out and grabbed all the supplies for the sandwich's. Jane and I helped carry the presents in and the both of us smiled as April left. We both hated her so much.
"She is a bitch." Jane said. I laughed and began helping with the food. I wasn't huge on Jane swearing but to be fair I started earlier than she did. We finished all the sandwiches like an assembly line while my mother hid the presents and entertained Billy. While he was distracted forty five minutes before the party began, Enzo arrived. My mother looked at him with a death stare and walked over.
"Enzo?" She asked. "Yes miss." "So you're my son's best friend?" "Yes." "Well since you're here early grab some bread and knife. Get to making those sandwiches."
He turned off his Walkman and began helping Jane and I with sandwiches.
"Enzo this is my little sister Jane." "Hi." "Hi. Enzo is that short for something?" "Uh yeah my full name is Lorenzo but I prefer to be called Enzo." "Nice." "So how long do we have to be here doing these sandwiches?" Enzo asked. "Well if we don't finish them before everyone else gets here mom will lose her shit." "Jane." I said. "Can I have this moment?!"
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"Fine." "Thank you." "Uh Robbie you want to hangout once the guests start rolling in?" Enzo asked. "Yeah sure. Jane you want to join?" "No I'm good. I'm gonna spend time with Billy." "Alright then."
