After my economics class I headed to my locker and watched the clock on the wall. There was a seven minute period between each class to grab your books and go to your next class. I waited by my locker for Enzo so we could head to class together. After waiting for two minutes I saw the guidance counselor walk out of her office with a girl. She was giving the girl a paper and that's when I got a good look at her face. Her jeans and belt loose but her tank top a little tight. Her face was gentle but assertive at the same time. Her hair was long and braided and I somehow heard her voice over everyone in the hallway, it was so majestic. Her eyes were intense and beautiful, everything about this girl made me feel vulnerable and weak. The guidance counselor left and she started walking down the hall in my direction. I remember everything when she looked me in the eye. She walked in my direction and looked at me with those gorgeous eyes. I turned my head when she passed me before I felt Enzo grab my shoulder. I turned around real quick to look at him before quickly looking back at her. I saw her head turn and I watched as she walked away from me.
"Hello Robbie?" "What?" "What you doing looking at that girl?" "I thought I knew her from somewhere." "Ohhhh no fucking way." "What?" "You have the hots for her." "What? no I don't?!" "Oh thank you god for listening to my prayers!" "Bro stop I don't like her. I thought I knew her from somewhere." "Really?" "Yeah." "Well that girl is new." "How do you know that?" "She was in my first period didn't recognize her and wanted to say hi. She's cute. You should definitely ask her out." "We're done with this conversation. Let's get to class." "Fine. But I want you to to know I've never been so happy in my entire life." "Fuck off." "Awww I knew it. You're the best!"
When we got to class he kept talking about it I was on the verge of punching him.
"Alright we're in class drop it." "Can I talk about it when we're not in class." "Just leave it alone." "Fine. I'll leave it alone."
Right before the bell rang the girl I saw in the hallway came into the class. The teacher pointed her to a seat in front of me.
  "Holy shit man." "Quiet."
She walked to her seat and looked at me for a split second before sitting down. I grabbed my textbook and did my best to ignore her and Enzo who I saw from the corner of my eye smiling.
"Nice to see everyone. Hope you guys had a great summer. I'm Mr. Adler. I'll be your honors English teacher this year. Anyways let's move on I'm going to hand you the syllabus. The grades are broken down by 50% essays and projects, 30% tests and quizzes, 10% homework, and the other 10% is participation. My policy is simple: No talking during tests, I don't care if you skip because it gives me less of a babysitting job, don't plagiarize, you can chew gum but don't smack it or I will ask you to throw it out. Any questions?..... no? Wonderful. I have some forms I need you guys to fill out I'll pass those out in a moment."
After class Enzo jumped up on my shoulder before putting his arms around my shoulder.
"What a wonderful day right?" "Yeah. Also can you tell me if you're gonna come to the party? I need to know." "Fine I'll go." "Great will your mom be alright with it?" "I don't even need to ask her. She's gonna be with her boss all week in a hotel room or casino. I can do whatever I please." "Alright sweet. So excited for tomorrow night. We should stop by Sally's for pizza." "Yeah that's fine. Great. See ya man." "Bye."
When I drove home Jane ran to her room and my mother came out of her room wearing a red dress and heels.
"Robbie honey I'm going to go out. It's Libby's birthday today and tomorrow I'm going to spend a few days at April's house. She just went through a horrible break up and I want to be there for her. We need to get groceries but you should have enough to last you, and if the guy from the gas company comes by say I'm still in the hospital with a really bad flu. I'm getting paid this Sunday so I will be able to pay the bill. Understand?" "Yes." "God this is why I love you. Now I have to go you have a good time."
She grabbed her coat and headed out. I put my bag on the ground and turned on the tv before Jane came out with a few papers.
"What's that for?" "Forms from school. I thought you could teach me how to forge a signature." "Oh yeah sure no problem. Sit down. Alright I can't believe I never taught you this I'm so sorry." "It's alright." "Alright so what we do is we have to remember mom's signature. She signs the check books right here, see that signature?" "Yes." "Alright. So we're gonna grab a piece of paper and pretend to make it look similar. Watch me."
I wrote the signature on a blank piece of paper and had Jane practice for a few minutes. She finally got it and wrote it down on the forms.
"Good that looks good. Your teachers would be impressed. I just want to tell you something and I hope it's alright with you." "Speak." "I'm going to a party tomorrow with Enzo and I might be home late." "So you're asking me if I'll be ok here?" "I know I hate to leave you alone-." "Go ahead." "Really?" "Yeah. I can always hang out with my friends they're always free. I suggest you go and have fun. I can't remember the last time you had a social interaction." "I have Enzo." "Yeah good for you. Can I go now?" "Yes you can go. Thanks for letting me go." "No problem."
After she left I stayed up late driving, it was a common pleasure of mine. I always liked to drive around listen to music. As shitty as this town is, at night it was peaceful. It felt like I was the only one around that escaped a black hole, and everyone else perished underneath me.
