(9 years old)

Amazed, I brushed my fingers along the hardcovered encyclopedia. It had been my birthday the day before, but sadly no one really made any plans for a party or celebration or anything. My mom got me some books, but they were all subjects I enjoyed when I was younger, and I no longer had an interest in them. But I faked a happy expression and told her that I loved them, not wanting her to feel bad. However today, after school, I received the most exciting, heartfelt present ever. A book about 'Underground Heroes'.

Izuku and I had always been close friends, sharing a lot in common. One being our slight obsession with heroes. The only big difference between that was him liking heroes who were more noticed by the public and had the spotlight most of the time. However, with me, I liked pro-heroes who were more secretive and were not always noticed by the public's eye, underground heroes.

Midoriya and I sat on my bed, speaking and joking around, making each other laugh. We both skimmed along the book, pointing out whatever caught our eye. Even though it was my book, Izuku loved reading it as much as I did.

Our chatting was interrupted abruptly by the opening of my front door, and the harsh slam of it closing after. We both went quiet and wide-eyed from the sudden disturbing noise.

I slid off my bed, taking my birthday present with me, hoping it was my mom who had just come through the door. Though with the loud bang from the slam of the door it was probably my dad. And I was correct. When I opened my door by a crack, I caught a glimpse of my father coming back from work, grumbling, and mumbling to himself in an irritated tone. I looked back into my room, seeing Izuku still sitting on my bed. He seemed slightly scared of who had entered my house, but I whispered to him from across the room that it was my father and that I would be back soon. I opened the door fully, closing it gently behind me, as I walked up to my dad, my birthday present pressed along my chest. I skipped over to him, a wide smile along my face, excited to show him my new tome.

My father was leaning against our kitchen counter, as I paced over to him, standing in front of him and looking up at his taller figure.

"Dad! Dad! How was your day at work?"

I tried my best to have a happy, energetic tone in my voice, but I was slightly worried about how he'd react. He usually came home angered from his job, but after some time he'd be fine. Though I was too excited about the new present that I just had to show him.

He looked down at me, noticing my much smaller presence, raising an eyebrow surprised by my sudden need to ask him how his day was.

"Eh. It was bitc-"

He spoke in a rash, enraged tone before cutting himself off and speaking once more this time less angry, but you can tell he was not fully off the steam.

"It was... interesting."

He then moved his eyes down to where I held my book to my chest, noticing my newly held possession.

"What's that? Did your friend give that to you?"

I nodded whilst speaking, smiling proud of my newfound object.

"Yep. It was my birthday yesterday, and he was too sick to give me this that day. So, we were having a playdate today and he gave me this."

I then pulled the book up above my head making sure my father could see it, holding it from both ends, and showing it off to my dad still grinning wide and proud.
