Kaitlyn sat at her vanity and was brushing her blow-dried hair. She wore a different black T-shirt and ripped jeans. On her bed laid out a purple and black flannel. A plastic bin labeled boots had its lid popped open and many pairs filled the bin.
Okay less than an hour till I have to be there," Kaitlyn thought to herself as she sat up and walked over to the boots bin, "Okay what to wear?" Kaitlyn questioned as she looked through the different pairs of boots, before finally concluding on her favorite pair of combat boots. She sat on her bed and laced them up afterward she threw on her flannel and grabbed her tan purse off of her desk chair. She dug through her purse and made a quick check of everything. Keys, check. Wallet check. With everything she needed, she made her way out of her room and into the dank halls of the barracks. Before she could make her way outside, a loud explosion was heard from outside the walls of Steelville.
"What the fuck? Normally you can't hear mining explosions from within the city," Kaitlyn thought to herself before reaching for the doorknob. Just as she twisted the knob the emergency alarm went off signaling that everyone needed to report to their battle stations. Kaitlyn dropped her purse and ran straight to the armory. As she ran into the room she saw other archers equipping their armor and bows. Kaitlyn ran to her assigned locker and pulled the door open. She hastily put the light leather chest piece over her flannel. She grabbed her quiver and strapped it to her back doing a quick check on how many arrows she had. Lastly, she grabbed her weapon, a family relic the Bow of Loyalty. As soon as she had everything she ran out of the room and reported to her battalion.
"Looks like everyone is here. We have to get to our tower quickly!" the battalion captain screamed as he led the way outside. As soon as Kaitlyn got outside she saw it. A tall metal giant, made of refined steel. It had magical energy flowing around it, and it was being generated at the head of the beast.
"W-w-what is that?" Kaitlyn gasped as she stopped in her tracks.
"Come on, let's MOVE!" a male archer said as he grabbed Kaitlyn's wrist and dragged her to the great steel wall. The battalion climbed one at a time, and once as they all reached the top of the tower they saw four giant golems roaming the farmlands. Ravaging the farms, and fields they came across their giant metallic limbs and stary magical energy blasts. Kaitlyn saw down on the ground a group of mages near each golem trying to subdue the magical mechanical beast.
"Prepare the ballista! Our objective is to stop those things from breaching the wall!" the captain yelled, snapping Kaitlyn back into reality. Kaitlyn ran over to the pile of ballista bolts, they were long wooden poles with a large metal arrowhead on top. Kaitlyn grabbed the back end as others helped to carry it over to the ballista. They quickly loaded it in just as the nearest golem turned away from the mages and towards the wall. The golem moved quickly and prepared a magical beam attack. It flexed its arm out and aimed at the wall as magical energy charged around its hand. Just before the golem fired at the wall, the mages attacked it with a group fireball spell knocking it over. As the golem fell it fired its beam into the sky causing the ground to shake.
"Steady the ballista! Aim for its head!" a voice screamed. A female archer next to Kaitlyn pulled levers that rotated the ballista.
"Fire!" a voice shouted. Kaitlyn shook as her hand trembled on the lever before she pulled it. The bolt flew in the air and hit the golem in the head knocking loose a large metal panel to the ground. The golem lifted its head exposing its inward workings. A yellow orb of magical energy resided in the center as gears and other machinery worked to cause the thing to function.
"Prepare the second Bolt!" the captain shouted. Kaitlyn couldn't help but look down to see the group of mages encircling the golem. They held their hands out sucking the energy from the golem to their palms. The golem thrashed as its energy was being drained from it, some of the mages began to struggle as their entire bodies were enveloped in the magical energy. Multiple mages fell to the ground giving the golem a chance to retaliate. The golem began to charge its leftover energy in its chest, creating a powerful attack.
"Kaitlyn fire that FUCKING BALISTA!!!!" a voice shouted. This caused Kaitlyn to snap back to reality. She pulled the lever launching the bolt. As the blot flew through the air, the golem finished charging its attack and fried a powerful blast of magical energy. The blast turned the bolt to dust.
"Duck!" Kaitlyn shouted in anticipation of the blast. She ducked down in seconds before the blast made contact with the metal wall. The wall fell apart causing the tower to crumble to the ground. As Kaitlyn hit the ground she heard the screams of her teammates. A searing red-hot pain flared throughout her body. Her vision began to fade, but something deep within her body told her to get up. Kaitlyn sat up and looked down to see a pool of blood around her. She looked around to see the ruins of the tower and the section of the gran metal wall it was attached to. Her vision began to become blurry and her body felt like a million pounds, she couldn't take it anymore and fell on her back. She looked up at the sky, and the last thing she saw was a large magical beam flying through the air before she passed out.
