Kaitlyn wore green scrubs, with black sneakers. She was being guided down the musty hallways by a much more experienced nurse Ark named Maddie. Maddie instructed Kaitlyn on how to properly respect and work with the patients and how to care for them.
"If you haven't noticed this facility is designed to care for discolored Arks, with mental illness. They are not mentally fit for our modern-day world, they need help with small tasks and keeping their sleeves to a schedule. That's where we come in, we guide them through their day-to-day lives," Maddie said with remorse and sadness. As the duo walked past a common room. The room had a few Arks, Kaitlyn immediately noticed them as their bright yellow fur stood out against the rest of the room. One of them made direct eye contact with her, it was an older male, by his facial expression Kaitlyn could tell he had been there for a long time.
"G-Great! Doesn't seem t-too hard," Kaitlyn said with a smile.
"It's not, it can be rather heartwarming to know I am helping improve their lives in a society that has nearly rejected them completely," Maddie said with a smile. Her lone jade green eye glistened in the light. "But this is the hard part of our job," Maddie sighed as the duo turned a corner to a new hallway. This hallway only had one room in it, at the end of the hallway was a heavily padded door with a small reinforced glass window.
"W-W-hat's this room for?" Kaitlyn asked transfixed on the mysterious door.
"I don't know if you know about the political workings of Phayor and its territories, but we have been entrusted with caring for his Royal Highness Lars McKnight and guiding him in overcoming his mental illnesses," Maddie said as she walked closer to the door. She reached inside her pocket and pulled out a ring full of keys. She delicately flipped through them until she came upon a key that shined a beautiful platinum color.
"This is the key used to get in his room, but he also has a padlock with a combination on it that changes daily and alerts the Royal Palace in Phayor when it's opened," Maddie monologued as she clicked the key in the lock and turned it, "Please get that wheelchair ready, we have to escort him to the gym and he isn't allowed to walk the halls, without security present," Maddie asked as she punched in numbers to the padlock. It beeped unlocking the door and allowing Maddie entrance into the room, Kaitlyn followed behind her with the wheelchair, and made a strange observation on its large sizing and amount of heavy duty restraints. Kaitlyn looked around the room, the walls were painted a melancholy cream color, the carpet was a musty light brown, and the bed was pushed against the wall in the top right corner by the window. The last thing Kaitlyn's eyes made contact with was a large ark sitting in a chair looking at something on the desk, his large shape covered the thing. He wore a tan t-shirt with cutouts for his large red demonic wings that were not like any other ark. One of his horns was shattered and broken off, a golden halo hung from the remaining horn.
"Lars your highness, the gym is ready for you to use," Maddie said, getting Lars' attention. Lars turned and looked at the nurses
"Who's the new girl?" Lars asked as he stood up.
"H-h-hi, I-I-I-," Kaitlyn stuttered as Lars stood over her.
"This is Kaitlyn, our newest staff member, and she will be on your nursing team," Maddie said. While flashing a reassuring smile at Kaitlyn.
"Cool," Lars said as he sat down in the wheelchair. Maddie strapped him into the restraints before the two rolled him out of the room to the gymnasium.
In the Gymnasium
Maddie opened the doors for Kaitlyn to wheel Lars into the gymnasium. The gymnasium was that of a standard school gym, but more run down. In the back corner, there were a few pieces of old workout equipment. Maddie began to undo Lars' restraints allowing him to stand up.
"Kaitlyn I will be back in about an hour, so I must leave you alone," Maddie said as she left Kaitlyn alone with Lars. Kaitlyn gulped as she took in the reality that she was left alone with potentially the most dangerous person here.
"So what the fuck happened to you that brought you here?" Lars asked as he walked over to some weights.
"U-U-Um what?" Kaitlyn asked nervously.
"People are only brought here when society has completely rejected them, or they have been broken by it. So which one happened to you?" Lars asked with a deep breath.
"I-I-I w-w-was a royal archer, t-t-then I left after an accident," Kaitlyn struggled to speak as she recoiled her traumatizing past.
"So, just like me, a victim of the system," Lars said as he started his workout routine.
"W-W-What?" Kaitlyn asked, confused.
"Why do you think the eldest son of House McKnight is in a mental institute instead of the throne?" Kaitlyn stood wide-eyed as her mouth fell open, "So will you join me in dismantling this cruel system to allow people like us and those imprisoned here to live normal lives?" Lars asked, gritting his teeth as he worked out harder.
"Yes!" Kaitlyn said with sharp justice in her voice.
"Good, the two of us are going to make the killer duo," Lars said with a wide grin.
