Hey guys. It's been a while, but I finally got the time to finish this chapter. I tried to make this an extra long one considering how long it's been. School and work are crazy right now, so it might be some time before I can update again, but I'll do my best. Hope you enjoy!
Welcome to the Shallow Lake of your dreams
Where are the days are full and nights are serene
Shit
Shit shit shit shit shit
What the hell was EJ thinking?
Shit.
The phone call from Nini the morning after the party—she knew.
Nini knew and Ricky knew.
And EJ's response was to pull over and kiss Ricky again?
He felt like tearing his hair out and screaming at the top of his lungs, but they were pulling up to camp and that probably wasn't the ideal way to start his time as a CIT.
So, in typical EJ fashion, he put on his best smile and pretended he wasn't falling apart on the inside. Acting really was an amazing life skill.
He parked behind Ashlyn's car and practically sprinted to the girls, who were waiting just outside. "Hey, guys! How was your ride?"
Carlos gave him an unimpressed look. "My talents were much better appreciated by the girls. They understand the appeal of singing your heart out on a road trip. How was your dumpster fire of a social situation?" He sent a pointed glance at Ricky, who was dawdling behind EJ.
Gina rolled her eyes. "Come on, Carlos. I'm sure it wasn't that bad. We're all friends now—maybe Ricky and EJ just need some time to warm up to each other?"
Ricky let out an awkward laugh. "Yep, uh huh, that's all. Just getting over the... rivalry?"
EJ would strangle the boy if he didn't know his self-restraint would go out the window the moment he got close. At least everyone else seemed to just brush it off without much of a thought.
"So," EJ clapped his hands together, grabbing the group's attention. "Camp Shallow Lake, y'all. My second home."
"I thought you had a second home," Gina joked.
"My second-second home. Come on." He motioned for them to follow him, everyone looking around in awe. "Seriously, I came to this camp an athlete and became an athlete-actor. You come to Shallow Lake one way and you just become something else."
And it really was true. Shallow Lake was where EJ figured out his love for theater—and for boys. Something about the place just gave people that extra push to find themselves.
Ashlyn smiled. "Wow. And I thought this was a vacation."
Before EJ could think of a retort to fire back, he spotted a familiar face in the crowd.
