Jake POV
It was obvious that we were all out of our depths before this mission even started. Everyone was on edge. Even Kristlyn who literally had the title: siren killer looked jittery. She had the most knowledge of what we were doing here and yet we were still at a loss.

And to make matters worse the caves we managed to track the sirens to, go back into the uncharted terrioty of the underwater. Like at this point forget the sirens we might just have a run in with the lochness monster themself. "We have to split up." I say remembering the plan, we have to spread out through the labyrinth of the caves and take out as many of the rogues as we can. And somehow simultaneously get as much information as we can.

If the rogues were working with The sirens Royal Court then it was a declaration of war. A war Arlo would have to lead. A war that the hunters would be obliged to fight in.

"Jake's right we stick to the plan. We already have the element of surprise." Shae says coming into step next to me. "If anyone is in trouble use the fire stones we'll track you." She adds as we all step into our respective paths: me with Shae, Rena with Damion and kristlyn alone.

We nod at each affirmatively before going our separate ways.

Shae and I move quietly listening carefully for the rogue sirens... or monsters.

"How's Reece taking the shift change?" Shae asks quietly.

"She doesn't like it. But then again neither do I." Working for Arlo is the worst thing that could've happened to the hunters. He's the king of Greed he'd sooner let the sirens kill us for his benefit than actually protect us. "How's working for 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨?" I quip. It's unnecessary but I'm curious. Shae's gotta have at least some defiance towards the situation despite her affiliation with Arlo.

"Tragic." She replies simply. "But necessary." She adds before turning a corner with a dagger raised to kill. "Arlo was better before he became a Sin. He was more than Greed." She explains. The only two Sins I ever met were Arlo and Kristlyn and they were both happier before the massacre.

"You know for a title that holds so much power, " I think of how Arlo's tyranny destroyed all of his relationships and how the story of how Kristlyn became a sin is one we don't speak off, "becoming a sin never did anyone good." I finish as we come to a fork in our path.

Unfortunately we can't leave a path unturned so Shae and I will have to go our own way from here.

"Well bye boss." I say as jokingly as I can manage before going down the path.

I threaded lightly until I heard voices and saw a flickers of light. 𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. I thought. I looked over into the makeshift room once I hid my fire stones. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘶𝘱.

There were five of them, I picked up from their voices. I scurried a little closer trying to hear what they were saying "-misunderstanding. I'm not part of your army. I just wandered into these parts." One of them said. I wasn't sure what they were talking about but I could tell that this one was lying. The words just seemed to come to easy.

"What I'm hearing is that you're trespassing?" Trespassing? Seems the rogues clearly don't have a good system considering they already have trespassers. Wow. I just said that as if I wasn't trespassing myself.

"No no no of course not." The first person says before the other three voices begin to question him more rigorously. I tune them out in favour of looking into the room. The first person is being ganged up on by the other four. There's an obvious conflict of interest even though they're all sirens. The first one isn't a rogue or something it seems. His eyes dart around the room, probably in search of an easy escape.

I lean forward looking closer and my blade catches the light of one of their mirrors and the first one turns. I panick standing up straight ready to take my chances with them as I quickly plug my ears. Sirens weren't against using their abilities to get what they wanted.

The first one at that moment decides to take a shot at one of his captors causing two of them to turn in the direction where one of them was pushed. Towards me. Fuck.

Before I knew it one of them ran straight at me, going for the ear. Bastards. I blocked and advanced forward stabbing them in the shoulder when they came at me again. They let out a shriek before lunging at me with their good arm, so I stabbed that one too before finishing them off with a stab to the heart.

I turned back to the fight only for two more to come at me. One of them knocking my blade out of my hand and the other ripping out my earplugs. Fuck. Major fuck. I punched in of of their directions praying to maim. And when that didn't work I took a fistful of one's hair and shoved him towards the other with momentum. I ran for my blade just getting back when I hearthe words. "𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳." FUCK.

I try desperately to ignore how my own limbs seem to work against me, setting my sword at the right-

No no no. Wrong. Very fucking wrong angle. Shit. Is this seriously how I die, I should've just became a cook or something. Poor Shae is gonna have to tell Reece I died. Reece is gonna have to know I died.

And then the blade began to pierce my skin and I knew it was over for me.

"𝘕𝘖 𝘞𝘈𝘐𝘛. 𝘋𝘖𝘕'𝘛 𝘓𝘐𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘕 𝘛𝘖 𝘛𝘏𝘌𝘔."

And then I was overcome with an even stronger urge. No longer to die. But to live because they asked me to die. It seems my fellow tresspasser was a good guy after all. He managed to kill the one that went after him and then did this. He was certainly stronger than the other sirens considering his command overruled the other's.

The other who now glarea at me angrily as he comes towards me. I swing high anticipating his move , his right arm comes clean off as his blood sprays out. Devils that's fucking messy. The tresspasser finished off the other one and grimaced as the blood splattered on his face.

Well shit. The rougues are definitely a bigger organization than we all thought and if I got caught up like this I can only imagine what happened to my friends and Damion.

I turned to question the tresspasser but when I looked he had already fled. Before I could even think to go after him my fire stone burned in my pocket. Someone's stone had went out. Someone was in trouble and I had no clue who.
