Damion POV
It was far from perfect.
Rena and I had managed to get into the room undetected and were now taking cover behind the large mossy rocks that littered the room at random corners and spaces. She looked ecstatic. Like we'd found the perfect stash. In a way she was right. This was the perfect place to gather information.
The sirens gathered around a makeshift table with a map having a meeting quite similar to the one we all had before this mission. Meaning that we were in a room with a competent lot. Or in other words a group of sirens that could rightfully kick Rena and I's asses like it was their job. It probably was.
My eyes scan over the room rounding them off to at least twenty. There were more than I thought there would be. Rena and I couldn't take all of them there were far too many. It was suicide.
I was about to tell her that we should come back here once everyone regrouped before I caught a glint of orange from across the room. Where there appeared to be another entrance.
Shae had found us. And if we were lucky Jake was also with her. They didn't exactly even out the odds but they certainly have us a fighting chance. Shae and Jake were good fighters. They were trained for years for these types of situations and not to belittle Rena but she just didn't have enough experience. From what I've heard this is her first big mission other than the odd ghoul or banshee on a bad night. But at the same I could tell that she had potential for greatness. Even greater than the Hunters...
It seemed that Rena must've also noted Shae's appearance because now she had a mischievous smirk on her face. She looked ready to fight, a blade in each hand ready to tear down her enemies. No wonder my sister and her were fast friends.
Rena nodded towards Shae before signalling me to move back. I did, not willing to take any chances at either of our lives. And it was a good thing that I did because being the ruthless leader of the Hunters that she was, Shae threw a grenade. Her aim true as it landed right in the center of the room, destroying whatever plans and maps were on that makeshift table and destroyed any of who was crowded near that table.
Which left a few if them on land, some of which had decided to flee through the lake that was so conveiniently in place.
Before I could even engage in the fight Rena ean forward with intention. She fought well. Like a combination of Shae and Kristlyn. Efficient and filled with 𝘸𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩.
Rena POV
Damion seemed to be too busy watching me fight to fight himself so I did what any noble hunter would. I shoved one of the sirens off of me and in his direction. He wasn't shocked by this to by own annoyance. He was efficient in breaking their neck with a loud enough crack that I heard it through my plugs before running in to help Shae.
I would've done the same if one of the bastards (not Damion) didn't pin me to the wall with sharpened claws as my head hut the concrete. Fuck that better not be a concussion. I haphazardly hook my leg around theirs and pull forward resulting in us both hitting the floor as they took the brunt of it. And then I stabbed them clean through the heart to finish the job. Damn sirens don't realize that I was trained by the leader of the Hunters and the wrath demon themselves.
The sirens and every other creature always thought it so easy to fight us but they don't understand. They don't understand that it changes nothing. The demons and the hunters have always held the highest power and they will continue to do so. Rogues be damned. Hell even posedian's Royal Court be damned.
I rejoin the fight with a regained level of fury as sirens are attacked all around me. By me. And by those who are with me. For a group that's outnumbered we are doing significantly well. Definitely better than we should be. It's like the odds in are in our favour.
I feel the vibrations of a siren's command ring through my earplugs.
Or not.
I spin towards the source of the sound and see Shae, her ears bleeding slightly from where her plugs were aggressively ripped out, her Firestone lay shattered on the mossy ground and her inwardly struggling with what the siren had commanded her to do. Long story short, not good.
Before Damion can rush towards her aid I fling my blade in their direction with a precision worthy enough to rival either of the Sin siblings. I let out a breath of relief as the blade lodges itself in the siren's throat killing them and cancelling off their command. That's right, rot beyond the darkness siren.
I take a moment to scan the room only to find that the other sirens are either dead or have fled through the lake. We'd go after them but they're at an advantage in the ocean and we need to keep the upper hand. I make my way over to Shae who is standing outwardly unaffected by what just happened. It wasn't the first time she'd been in that kind of a situation and it likely wouldn't be the last consuderkng her lifestyle as a hunter.
She gives a small shake of her head and goes to speak before we're interrupted by the sound of someone running into the room. We all draw our bladez and face the back entrance.
Wait.
It's just Jake. Jake who looks frantically worried about us. "Are we all okay I thought something happened?" Get asked his eyes darted to all of us as of assessing for major injuries and the like.
We all nod. "We're all fine." Damion says and we nod again. "Just ran into a lot of sirens." He explains.
Jake beams in recognition. "I also had a run in with them." And now it's our turn to check him for injuries. He faced off a group of sirens without backup. It was Jake. Who had years if training. But still. It was impressive.
"How'd you do it? " I ask him. He shrugs, "long story."
"Stories aside. If we're all uninjured, we need to leave now." Shae seemed to put an emphasis on the 'now'.
When she noticed that we didn't start moving immediately she added, "I don't have time to explain but it's important. We need to leave now. Kristlyn will be fine on her own and name sure that the rogues are taken care off." She says turning towards the exit barely waiting for us to follow. We do obviously.
