After I ate, I hung around for a little while. I noticed the O'Driscoll was no longer tied to the tree. It made me wonder what happened to him.
"What happened to the O'Driscoll?" I asked Dutch.
"Arthur, Bill, and John took him to find Colm." He continued to smoke his cigar.
"John?" I questioned.
"One of the other gang members." He chuckled at my confusion. "Jacks father."
"The little boy I met?"
"You met little Jack?"
"Yeah, he came up to me when I was eating." I crossed my arms over my chest. "He seems like a nice young boy."
"Well, he has all of us looking out for him." He gestured to the gang with a smile.
I chuckled. "Seems like a nice thing you got going here."
"We're a family. Not just a gang." He winked down at me.
I nodded and got out a cigarette. I struck a match on the bottom of my boot and lit it up. After it was lit, I shook it out and threw it to the ground. I took a long drag, feeling the heat warm my chest.
A man came riding into camp with the O'Driscoll behind him. He had three scars across his face.
"John, how'd you get on?" Dutch asked, approaching the two men.
"Didn't find Colm. Arthur swore this boy was setting us up, but he saved Arthur's life."
"Did he now?" Dutch patted the boy on the shoulder. "Well then, O'Driscoll, since you saved my best friend, looks like you're staying."
The boy nodded and smiled before heading over to his horse. John looked at me with a confused expression. His eyes were narrowing by the minute.
"John, this is Rose. She saved Bill and I figured I would let her have a hot meal and hang around for a bit. Miss Rose, this is John Marston."
"Hi," I held out my hand. He shook it. "You have a very sweet boy."
"Uh, thanks." He tipped his hat before walking away.
A few minutes later, Bill rode in, cursing to himself. Arthur shortly followed. He got down and looked surprised to see me in camp.
"Well, hey there," he said as I walked over to him, "what're you doing here?" He tethered his horse.
"Saved Bill. Dutch gave me a hot meal as thanks."
"I'm not surprised that Bill had to be saved."
"Why's that?" I followed him closely as he walked over to his tent. I hesitated going in.
"He's dumb as rocks." He looked up at me and chuckled. "You can come in, you know."
I put my hands up. "I'm good, thanks. I was just about to get heading out."
"Already?" He looked surprised.
I nodded. "I got a gang to track down." I winked at him before heading over to Dutch. He was swooning over the Irish woman. She stared at me as I interrupted. "Sorry to interrupt, but I best be getting on."
Dutch stood. "Rose, would you reconsider what I said about staying?"
I shook my head. "I think it's best if I go on my own." I backed away towards my horse. "Thank you for the hospitality, Mr. Van Der Linde."
I headed on my way, stopping to pick herbs every once in a while. Eventually I came across a camp. They looked like O'Driscolls, but I wouldn't fire until I knew for sure. So instead, I acted lost.
