When Bria and Eugene turned sixteen, they were able to go out more freely. Eugene was still getting into trouble, so Bria was allowed more freedom than he was. Bria too was getting in trouble since she thought she was an adult, so we had to lay the rules down one night.
"Okay," I stood in the dining room as Arthur leaned against a wall and both kids sat at the table. "Seeing as how the two of you want to do what you want, here is what is going to happen." I leaned on a chair. "There will be no going anywhere unless you tell me or your father. There will be no cussing, that is not tolerated because you two are still children. There will be no leaving this property for a good month since the both of ya think it's okay to leave and not tell us. There will be no arguing with us over what we say, or your consequences will be more severe. And there will be no friends coming over without our permission. Are we understood?"
"Yes Ma." Bria said, crossing her arms.
"Eugene, are we understood?"
"Yes." He rolled his eyes.
"And for the next month, bedtime is nine on the dot."
"What?" Eugene stared at me.
"You heard me."
"But Ma-" Bria tried to argue back.
"My mind is made up." I stared at them both. "I suggest you two go get ready for bed."
They both grunted as they headed for their rooms. I pulled out a kitchen chair and sat down, rubbing my forehead. Arthur sat down next to me, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I need a break from these kids."
"You and me both. But we can't exactly have John or Abigail babysit because these two will lie to get their way."
"Why don't we just tell them the rules?"
"John is a pushover. And Abigail, well, she ain't so much of a pushover but she'll do anything for these kids, you know that."
"Even bend our rules?"
"She has before."
Arthur chuckled. "You got a point."
I sighed and leaned my head against his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head. Bria and Eugene came from their rooms and walked to the bathroom to brush their teeth, still angry and sulking. I let out another sigh. Arthur rubbed my back gently.
"They'll get over it."
"Yeah, I know."

Once a month passed and the kids grounding was over, we decided to have Abigail babysit the kids so we could have a small break. I saddled up my new horse, Bandit, who was a Amber Champagne Missouri Fox Trotter. Arthur saddled up Black Chestnut Thoroughbred, Deputy. We then headed for Blackwater. We decided to eat at a new restaurant that opened, then watch a movie at the theater, and then rent a hotel room for the night.
At the restaurant, I ordered Roast Prairie Chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Arthur ordered Fried Catfish with boiled spinach and glazed corn. We talked and ate as we usually did and we stayed for a while. Afterwards, we headed towards the theater and decided to watch Sketching For Sweetheart. It was short, but also pretty funny. We then decided to ride around West Elizabeth for a while, just talking or riding, enjoying the company we both provided. On our way back to Blackwater, we hurried quickly.
Once inside the room, Arthur immediately pushed me against a wall, pining my arms above my head as he pushed his tongue against mine. We kissed for a few moments before he began to unbutton my blouse. I fumbled for his belt buckle as he continued to kiss me. Once undone, I reached for the buttons of his shirt. I got them undone quickly, and Arthur lifted me up by thighs, carrying me to the bed. He slipped down my jeans, taking my underwear with them. He slid his jeans down his hips and legs, kicking them off to the side.
