Ian sat nervously in the small room of the clinic, his hands clasped tightly together. He was only eighteen and pregnant, an unexpected turn of events for the trendy musician who had always been cautious about his actions. He had come to the clinic alone, unsure of what to do or who to turn to.
As he waited for the doctor to arrive, Ian's mind raced with questions and possibilities. How would he take care of a child on his own? Would he ever be able to continue his music career with a baby to raise? Was he even ready to be a parent?
The door to the room opened, and a middle-aged woman with kind eyes entered. She introduced herself as Dr. Hernandez and sat down beside Ian, offering him a small smile.
"First of all, Ian, congratulations," she said. "You're going to be a parent. It's a beautiful thing."
Ian couldn't help but feel a small sense of comfort at her words, even as his anxiety continued to build.
Dr. Hernandez went on to explain the options Ian had, from continuing the pregnancy and raising the child to giving it up for adoption. She gave him plenty of resources and ensured him that whatever his decision, he would be supported.
As Ian left the clinic, his mind felt more at ease. He still had a lot to think about and plan for, but for the first time since finding out about the pregnancy, he felt like he had options and a support system.
He walked down the street, lost in thought, when he saw Hunter sitting on a bench, staring at the trees in front of her. They had met a few days ago, and Ian had been struck by Hunter's fierce independence and unique way of living.
"Hey," he said, taking a seat next to her. "What are you thinking about?"
Hunter turned to him, her eyes wide and observant. "Just... guarding myself," she said. "And those I care about."
Ian nodded, feeling a sense of kinship with Hunter. They were both facing unexpected challenges, but together they could guard themselves and find their way through.
