Ian paced back and forth in his small apartment, unsure of how to break the news to his family. He had decided to keep the baby, but he knew it wouldn't be easy. He had always been the black sheep of the family, the one who pursued music instead of a more "practical" career. Now, with a child on the way, he feared his parents would never forgive him.
As he sat down on his couch, he heard a knock on the door. He wasn't expecting anyone, but he dragged himself up and opened it anyway. To his surprise, there was a young girl standing there, her blonde hair braided and her eyes wide.
"Hi, I'm Cory," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I heard about you from Hunter."
Ian furrowed his brow. He didn't know anyone named Hunter.
Cory hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Look, I know this is going to sound crazy, but I need your help. Hunter told me you're going through something tough too, and...I don't know, I just feel like we could be there for each other or something."
Ian stared at her for a minute, taking in her earnest expression. He didn't know why, but he found himself nodding and stepping aside to let her in.
They talked for hours, sharing their stories and their fears. Ian was surprised at how easy it was to open up to Cory, even though he had only just met her. By the time she left, he felt a sense of comfort he hadn't felt in weeks.
As he lay down to sleep that night, he couldn't help but wonder about this "Hunter" person. Who was she, and why did she seem to bring people together? He resolved to find out more about her tomorrow, but for now, he let himself drift off to sleep feeling a little less alone.
