The weeks went by quickly, two weeks to be precise and I am now fully settled in Apartment B.
All is going okay so far, and the rumors about the Apartment being Ms's main target seemed false...so far. My only real problem was that I somewhat had to share a locker with Chimdindu, and that wasn't anything little. It was beyond crazy!!!
I nearly ran mad every morning. Chimdindu was anything but organised. A complete scatter brain, always looking for this or that and at the end of the day tumbling the whole locker in anxiety and frustration.
I had a whole locker to myself, for my clothes, and so did she. But I needed one for my foot wear and my Contraband bag of books.
So normally, everyone's foot wear was expected to be kept at the top of the lockers, but it was so stressful getting it down. It was too high and it required climbing up the bunks to reach the top of it. Also, the footwear could inadvertently be pushed deep down to the very back of the locker top by someone else, moments like that were so frustrating and it literally took eternity to find it in the midst of all the abandoned items at the locker top.
As for my Contraband bag of books; according to Ms' dictates, we weren't allowed to keep or bring any bag asides our backpack up the stairs, talkless of into the rooms. Not even the box we came to the hostel with.
She had all of it shipped to the locked up laundry downstairs. While the big bag of various note books and textbooks given to every student according to class by the school, she instructed that we leave at school.
I had flaunted both rules and had both bags with me, stacked in the secret abandoned locker. The perks of my late resumption, but Chimdindu was driving me crazy on a daily.
Over the weeks still, Ms had given those reading in the reff a chance to come over to the study if they wanted to. Surprisingly and unfortunately, a lot of people jumped at the opportunity.
I saw it as unfortunate because the move made the study very full, stuffy and almost jampacked, while leaving the reff with only very few persons who were now considered by Ms, the unserious and the supposed bad eggs of the set.
The only positive side of the move to me, was that I longer felt lonely on my reading table because Nneoma now sat right beside me. I genuinely felt she was just the best person to be by my side during prep. Of course I didn't feel that way just because she was my friend, I was thinking academically too. She was good at math, and could perhaps share some knowledge.
"Look at Lucy." I chuckled lowly to Nneoma. The sight of the dozing girl bringing me out of my train of thoughts.
We were in the study and mid way through prep.
"This girl is so disgusting, only sleep she knows." Nneoma hissed. "I don't even know why she came to the study in the first place. If she knew she wanted to sleep she would have very well remained in the reff. See her big head." She clicked her tongue.
"Ahn ahn naw, guy..." I tried stifling my laughter. Ms was right behind on her usual spot.
"No seriously. This girl is very stupid." Nneoma whispered again. I swiftly kicked her legs under the table as I usually did, when I felt or noticed Ms get up from her seat behind through my side eye.
We both kept mute and still, all attention on the book in front of us as Ms passed right in front of our tables and outside.
"Guy she didn't even know that Ms left. What if she saw her?" I laughed as soon as Ms was out of sight, glancing in awe at the dozing girl as her head continued rocking back and forth in an uncontrollable manner.
"How will she know." Nneoma grunted.
Lucy Ampitan, was one of the most looked down on and ostracized girl of our set. She was a shy, timid averaged height and chocolate skinned girl who made use glasses. Above all her descriptions though, was her love for sleep.
