steve had guided cymbeline into the kitchen, where their small dining table had been set with plates and napkins, two pizza boxes on the table, one containing cheese and the other pepperoni, her favorite. "you left me at the school" she said in a rather frustrated tone "you told me you would wait for me after i left the building...you left me"
he shook his head and sat down in one of the dark wood chairs, his hands folded in his lap "i didn't mean to" he said "and that's my fault, i should have had eddie or nancy bring you home". steve sighed before he pulled the chair across from him out, motioning over towards it.
"we do need to talk though" he said before running a frustrated hand through his hair as he watched her go and sit down. "about mom and dad...they... don't even know you exist, and truth be told, you aren't even my biological sister".
cymbeline sat there in shock at what he just said, watching as he took a vanilla folder off the nearby kitchen counter and tossed it over to her. she took the files in her hands and opened it, the contents inside nearly stilling her heart.
"i meant to tell you earlier but...you seem so happy, here, with a normal life..." he said, watching as her eyes scanned over the documents in the folder, lab results, photos of her as a baby, her whole life up until this moment was being held hostage in this single vanilla folder. cymbeline looked at him, her lips tightening as tears threatened to spill.
"your lying" she said, closing the folder with shaky hands "your lying to me...this isn't real..this is some sick joke isn't it steve?". but cymbeline watched as steve shook his head, silent tears rolling down his cheeks. why was he crying? she should have been the one crying, this was her life, she was living a lie, all this time, it was all fake.
cymbeline slammed her hands down on the table, pushed her chair out, and stormed out of the kitchen, grabbing her oversized green jacket and storming out of the house through the back door. her walk turned into speed walking, and speed walking soon turned into running as she felt the cold night air pierce her face, sharp branches piercing her feet, splinters getting caught in her fragile skin.
but she didn't care, if her life was a lie, where were the real answers, who was her real family, and why did nobody go looking for her when she had gone missing? soon her legs gave out, her body landing on the leaf covered floor of the woods, her chest heaving as it became harder to breathe, tears hurling themselves down her cheeks.
the crunching sound of leaves and twigs snapping drew her gaze upwards, and outstretched hand right in front of her eyes. it was her, the girl with perfect curls and those beautiful eyes, nancy. nancy watched as cymbeline took her hand and slowly stood "i didn't think that i would find someone else out here" she said with an endearing smile.
"you look cold...how about i take you to my place and we can get you warmed up?" cymbeline nodded and held nancys hand tightly, feeling the heat radiating through her hands onto hers, she was being so nice to her, and yet, she hardly even knew her. "im nancy by the way" she said "nancy wheeler"
"cymbeline" she said, glancing at nancy hesitantly "just cymbeline"
