It turns out Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Hulk Hogan, and Mr. Cain were all detectives. They need enough evidence against Osas, as she is now linked to another sort of hardened criminal chain, not that I understand a thing they are spewing. I have been trying my best not to zone out.
I agreed to their condition because I don't want to waste away in the cell, plus it adds to my adventure, and most importantly, my money might not get frozen. I seriously hope for that last option.
"I'm Detective Aleshinloye," Mrs. Peacock, or, should I say, Detective Peacock, introduces herself.
Pointing to Mr. Hulk Hogan, she says, "And this Detective Rex."
' Who dashed him?'
"And Detective Kelechi, we call him Strong."
'God grant this people eyes, for heaven's sake! How can they say this man is strong?" I mutter under my breath.
I quickly gift them a very fake smile: "And Detective Michael will be your partner; we call him Mickey."
Mickey, keh?
"Here," She grabs some humongous-looking file from the desk next to her and slams it on the little wooden stool sitting next to me. She begins to loosen the handcuffs bounding me.
"This is your first case; you will learn on the job or you die trying. Sign this!" She retrieves another file from the pile next to me.
I reach a shaky hand out to take it from her, and she hands me a pen too. I realize it is a contract; I need to look out for anything that can throw me under the bus later or some cunning-looking things there.
I start to read the contract, but within the next line and thereabouts, I lose interest in it as the English used there is beyond my understanding; the person must have used an encyclopedia because what is this nonsense?
"Do I receive a salary?" I opt out to asking questions.
"Is that what brought you here? Greediness!" Hulk Hogan says
"What he means to say, in essence, is that you are not receiving a dime, except your freedom after you have successfully put an end to your dear friend and other jobs you are handed within the year, unless your work is deemed to be worth it." Mr. Cain says
I frown at the response. "What else am I to know here?"
"Put your school to use and read the thing; otherwise, sign this right now!" Mrs. Peacock definitely has anger issues, or she has a personal vendetta against me.
I sign anyway, to avoid her swallowing me alive, and without reading. I know it is stupid, but let's just hope we are not watching a Zee World soap opera; it won't be funny at all.
"Study this case, and for your sake, make sure to grab something." Mr. Cain said as he turned in the direction of the door that he left, followed by Mr. Hulk Hogan and Mrs. Peacock.
I grab the study case, however dizzy I feel. They did not even have the courtesy to say, ' This girl has suffered, been beaten, arrested publicly, and even shoved into an unwanted job just because of her trust in her foolish friend.'
Now I realize what type of suffering Jesus went through. And I haven't even gone through half of what he went through.
The case file is about an assassin on the payroll of a Mafia king who started as a thug.
