Day 7: Free Day

Okay okay. I did a part three to the Talent Swap AU (for those that don't now, I did it twice for the previous Momoharu Weeks, feel free to check them out). I CAN'T HELP IT! I seriously need to write a proper full blown story soon XD

Kaito had a routine in the evenings.

Eat.

Go to his Lab to train.

Shower.

Go to bed.

And between training and retiring to his room, he'd check up on Maki. Since the second trial, he had gotten quite close to her. Not too close, but close enough to start trusting her. She somehow managed to rope Shuichi into trusting him too. During the day they'd hang out for a little bit, but in the evenings, Maki went off to watch the stars. That was pretty much her routine. Kaito would often watch her from a distance in the shadows. Not to be creepy, but to make sure that she was safe. She had always left herself too open. Also he wanted to make sure that she didn't fall asleep outside which would make her more vulnerable. He just wanted to make sure that she didn't get killed.

Tonight was no different. After doing some target practice, Kaito strolled out of the small field that Maki always star gazed. However something was different. Maki wasn't laying down. She was standing up and talking to someone. Kaito got a little closer, noticing that it was Korekiyo Shinguji, the Ultimate Butler. At first glance, everything seemed okay, but Maki seemed defensive. Kaito kept watching, just enough to hear Maki faintly telling Shinguji to back off. The creep didn't seem to get the message. Maki even tried to slap him, resulting in her wrist being caught before she could land the blow.

Time to step in.

"Is there a problem here?" Kaito shouted as he strode over to the two Ultimates, not missing a beat. Maki was briefly surprised by his presence whilst looking relieved. Shinguji seemed to be emotionless but then again, he was wearing a mask. He did let go of Maki instantly as the assassin got closer.

"No, I was just having a chat with Miss Harukawa." He spoke emotionlessly. He readjusted his gloves before he started to walk away. "I must be on my way, I still have plenty to do. Have a good night, you two."

Kaito glared at the butler as he disappeared into the main building. He had better stay in there if he knew what was good for him. Not that Kaito would kill him, but he'd definitely beat him to a bloody pulp. But he can't focus on that right now. Priorities. Kaito turned to Maki, noticing how she was rubbing her wrist. That creep can't have grabbed her that tight, did he?

"You okay?" Kaito asked, all of his aggression suddenly gone.

"I'm fine." Maki answered bluntly, trying to hide her wrist. Kaito however, gently caught it to have a look. He could see that it was a little red. Hopefully it won't bruise. He didn't think that Shinguji really did grab her that bad. Now he wanted answers.

"What did he want?" He asked again.

"Nothing. He just wanted to offer me some tea." Maki spoke quietly, not making eye contact. Kaito didn't believe that for a second. There was something that didn't feel right. There's no way that Maki would be dead set on refusing and Shinguji being so persistent over some tea. And there was this look on Maki's face that confirmed it. Maki noticed this look on Kaito's face. While it seemed blank, something in his eyes screamed something else. Aggression? Protectiveness? Murderous intent? Something didn't quite seem right. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. He was just giving me a bad vibe." Kaito shrugged, not quite sure how else he could've answered. He couldn't believe that he was starting to show his emotions. He needs to calm down and keep everything in check, just like it had been drilled into his head a billion times a day. However he thought that eating his defences down for a short time won't hurt. Besides he could see that Maki was shaken up. Gently, he took her hand, but instead of heading to the dorm rooms, he was taking her through the small wooded area at the Academy.
