This is mostly the same chapter, with a very different ending. Several of you made clear that the way the first version ended was far from satisfactory. I knew it risked ticking some people off, but I had a pretty neat payoff sorted out for next chapter. However, the more I thought about it, the harder it became for me to justify Julia's actions in the moment, except as a plot device- and that just was not good enough. So I went in and reworked it, and with luck not only does this version improve upon the first, but still leaves room for that little surprise I was planning.
