Constantly being in fight or flight mode had been fraying Lucy's nerves, but laying on top of Tim's naked body made her head clear for the first time in months. She looked up at him as she tried to catch her breath, and his smile made her feel warm and happy. All she wanted was to stay like this forever.
Which is when she remembered she was in the middle of an undercover operation. An undercover operation he ALMOST RUINED by hugging her in an alley a month ago.
Lucy peeled her sweaty body away from his, so Tim groaned and pulled her back against him. "Five more minutes," he pleaded.
"Babe, I can't," she kissed his chest right over his heart and wiggled out of his arms to find her clothes.
He shot up to a seated position and asked. "Why does it seem like you're mad at me?"
"Because I am," she responded simply and put her bra back on.
"Excuse me?"
"Tim, you talked to me in PUBLIC. You HUGGED me. I'm undercover. You're not supposed to interact with me, but you did anyways."
"What did you expect me to do, Luce? I hadn't seen you in 95 days. All I do is sit at home and miss you, and there you were right in front of me. How was I supposed to..."
"We're cops. We're supposed to be professionals."
"You hugged me back," he countered and crossed his arms.
She paused from pulling her pants up. Lucy HAD hugged him back. She clung to him like he was the only thing in existence during their brief reunion. "It was a mistake. The priority is taking down these terrible people who steal and sell CHILDREN."
The word "mistake" burned a little, but he could look past it, because apparently Lucy was working a case about child trafficking? "Kids?" He paused as the realization set in. "You're right. This op is the priority, but now I get to help out. So, I can see you without threatening your cover. I swear I won't do anything to threaten the op again."
Lucy studied the fierce promise written all over his face. "I'm still a little mad at you, though. Noah yelled at me about our run-in."
"He yelled at me, too," Tim remembered listening to the detective give him grief, but he had no regrets about holding Lucy for just a moment. Maybe he should have. Flagrantly ignoring the rules was not his style, but Lucy mattered more than any procedure. He climbed out of bed and stopped her from putting her shirt back on.
"I bet Grey was pissed, too."
"He was surprisingly...calm about the whole situation." Tim dropped kisses down her neck towards her collarbone and along her shoulder.
"You are NOT getting me back in bed right now."
"Fine. There are walls and a bathroom counter," he smirked and moved his lips to her chest.
"If this is how all my check-ins are gonna go, I'll never be able to focus."
"Actually, I figure this is the only way we can focus if we blow off a little steam when we're together." He teased at her bra clasp, but she shook her head.
"Next time, baby. I really shouldn't be gone so long. Monica is everywhere. She seems to be creepily observant."
"Whose Monica?"
"She owns and manages the building I live in including the bar at the bottom. We work at the bar together."
"You're living above a bar?"
Lucy pulled his head away from her chest to look at him. "Has Noah briefed you at all?"
"He will, but the priority was checking in on the undercover officer," Tim answered innocently and twirled a lock of her hair around his finger.
