A lot of time passed, and with five people before me, I was next in line for the test.
The test hall was getting quite empty, since most supernaturals were teleported to the fabrication room, while the others were sent back home.
Tiny beads of sweat rolled down my face as I felt really anxious for a reason I couldn't understand.
I exhaled lightly before stepping forward to touch the orb in front of me. As I touched it, its bright yellow glow grew paler and paler until it turned white.
There seemed to be a small explosion within it, which caused it to shine with a sudden bright white light.
I noticed the startled look on everyone's face, but I couldn't really understand what happened.
The headmistress was puzzled.
"What just happened?", she asked.
I took my sweaty palms off the orb before it assumed it's yellow glow again.
But there seemed to be a problem - the magic screen didn't display the kind of supernatural being I was, even though the orb confirmed that I was a supernatural.
The headmistress turned to her assistant amidst the confusion. Her puzzled looks couldn't be concealed.
"Could it be that the orb is broken?", she asked.
Tabitha shook her head in disagreement.
"No, it isn't broken...I suggest he goes again", Tabitha replied.
Someone from behind me yelled, "That's not fair, it'll be cheating... I'm next!"
"You can't just keep us here all day...most of us are really hungry", another complained.
I was just about to step aside, when the headmistress instructed me to touch the orb again, ignoring people's complains.
Just like before, the orb shone brightly with a white light to indicate that he was supernatural, but the screen went blank again.
I noticed how confused the headmistress and Tabitha looked, and it made me feel even more anxious.
"I'm sorry, but is there a problem?", I asked.
I had to ask.
The headmistress shifted her gaze to Tabitha again for some seconds, before she shook her head in response to my question.
"No...it's just that your status as a supernatural is complicated", she said.
"Does it mean I'm not supernatural?", I asked again.
"You're supernatural, but our screen must be having some issues, since it can't tell us what being you fall under. "
Being comfortable with our conversation, since we seemed to be whispering, I was just about to ask another question.
"Does it --"
But I was interrupted.
She flicked her hand once, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, I found myself in a room full of other people.
'Supernaturals', I guessed.
..............
Soon after the test was over, the persons who weren't identified as supernaturals were sent back to their families, with their memories of the academy erased beforehand.
The orbs and screens soon disappeared after the headmistress cast a spell on them.
"This year's turnout proved to be more than we expected indeed" said Tabitha.
