~ Daryn ~
The library was lit up by a brilliant golden light which was being emanated from tiny winged creatures, the size of a bug. Its several sections were spanned with wooden bookshelves which held books regarding the categories they represented, ranging from magical creatures to other supernatural stuff. The labels for each category were clearly engraved upon the chess patterned floor.
Just as my marvelled gaze swept around the whole room, I couldn't help but accept the truth that this place was heaven. Receiving a shoulder bump from Daemon yanked me out of my amazement, allowing me to notice the blonde lady whose glossy red lipstick gleamed as she beamed at us.
"You must be fascinated by the magic in this place", she spoke in a calm tone.
"You're probably freshmen, right?"
While I nodded in agreement, Daemon responded, "Yeah".
"Uh...so, what are you doing here by this time of the night?", she asked.
"Couldn't sleep, so we came to check out this place...and probably to do some research too", he answered.
I quickly snapped out of my frozen state because I had to say something;
"Y-yeah...cus we've heard other students talking about it"
A forced smile became imprinted upon my face when she beamed at us again.
"Yeah, I get that a lot...you can give yourselves a brief tour around the place, and you've gotta sign out any book of your interest before taking it with you", she said.
"Thanks", we chorused.
We walked away, turning towards the section for unknown magic, but halted when her voice came from behind:
"Oh, I sincerely apologize for my ill manners...I'm Zelda, and just note that section 118 is strictly out of bound for students"
"Okay, nice", Daemon responded.
As we arrived at the 'unknown magic' section, I averted my gaze to the tiny winged creatures while Daemon carefully scanned each book on the shelf.
"Are they like, Fairies?", I wondered.
"Yeah, I guess", he answered.
After what seemed like a minute or two, he took a book off the shelf, staring at its black leather cover upon which the words, 'Spell Problems', were engraved.
"It's obviously this one...here", he said, handing it to me.
I ran my fingers through its thick leather back and spine, and as all boring books should be, it was big and lengthy. Flipping its cover open, I allowed my eyes to scan the bold black writings which were embossed on each page.
"So, what exactly are we looking for?", I wondered.
"Answers to your spell casting problem", replied Daemon.
"Um...okay, then we better sign it out. But it's gonna take ages to get through each page", I said.
"It's for your own good"
I scoffed.
Thud!
I let go of the book which I was holding, because it felt as though I went blind immediately the whole place turned dark. The fairies must've lost their glow or something, which seemed strange and unexpected.
Daemon's golden yellow eyes were the only thing I could see when I turned left, causing me to exhale in relief.
"If I'm not blind, then what just happened?", I asked him.
"I've got no idea...but we gotta find Zelda and leave", he said.
As he took hold of my wrist, whispers began to echo in my head, growing louder with each step I took. My mind became dizzied by several flashes of blurry images, causing me to shriek in pain.
Like a little whisper, I could hear Daemon's voice amidst the tumult;
"Dude what's wrong?!"
"Zelda, where are you?!"
"Somebody please help!"
Those were the last words I could hear before every sound became swallowed in a vacuum of silence. While I stood frozen, it felt as though my mind was plummeted into a dark void with no means of escape.
**********
Worry and fear consumed Daemon's mind as he continuously attempted to shake Daryn back to his senses. Letting go of Daryn's shoulders, he darted backwards when Daryn began walking in a straight line.
"What the fuck are you doing, dude?"
After screaming with no response, the pounding of his heart filled his ears as he watched Daryn disappear into the shadows of the restricted section.
He began pacing towards Daryn, beads of sweat forming on his face as he neared the restricted section. He gulped, reaching out to Daryn with his right hand when suddenly...
He was plummeted into a bookshelf, thudding echoes filling the room as dozens of books crashed to the floor.
His eyes almost became blinded by the lights when they suddenly came back on in what seemed like a second. Ringing noises filled his ears, causing him to groan as he managed to get up again.
Scanning the whole section allowed him to realize that he must've landed in section 116; so he began pacing towards the next section, treading upon dozens of books until he arrived at a corner from where he could get a clear view at what Daryn was doing.
Daryn's eyes had already assumed a brilliant white tint, while his gaze was fixated upon the vague pages of a black book. Wearing an evil grin on his face, his voice reverberated throughout the room as he began chanting some words from the book.
"Servatis a periculum...servatis a maleficum"
With his gaze glued upon what was happening, Daemon gradually motioned backwards until his back met with a bookshelf.
Averting his gaze to the fairies, he asked, "Aren't you guys seeing any of this?"
However, they remained frozen, their brilliant golden lights flickering when he turned away.
His skin became carpeted with goosebumps when he saw a thick dark smoke arise from the open book Daryn was holding. He gulped, watching as the strange smoke evaded Daryn's nostrils until the white tint in Daryn's eyes faded into absolute blackness.
"What the fuck is happening?!", he cried.
Pulling himself together, he took a deep breath and stepped out of his hiding corner. He shut his eyes, sprinting towards section 118 with everything he had until suddenly...
Bang!
He got slammed onto another bookshelf with brute force, dozens of books raining upon him all at once until his mind became swallowed by darkness.
