Conflicting feelings

"Today's the day,great" Addie grumbled to herself as she rolled out of bed. Today is the day she is to accept her rank as a private in the military force and join the fight to take Elvin territory for the humans. Addie only joined the military because she had no choice. On her 15th birthday 2 military generals took her from her home and placed her in classes on the history of the Elvin war. She became surrounded by seething hatred for the Elvin race and other species alike. She was raised to see the human race as the only true race. Addie never believed any of it and she despised the teachings she was forced into. Addie began exploring the library outside of her boot camp at 16 to find knowledge of the Elves outside of her schooling. She soon fell in love with Elvin culture and couldn't stop herself from learning everything she could. She began to read books about their celebrations and their dress attire. Addie learned jewelry in their braids held high symbolism in Elvin culture and that elves were expert swordsmen. Over her years of learning how to slaughter these people she fantasized meeting them and becoming friends with elves. She dreamed of a day where humans could be at peace with elves.

Now she had to leave those ambitions and morals behind and prepare for war. She opened her closet and found her uniform for the coronation. As she got dressed the pit in her stomach grew more painful. This ceremony was going against everything she believed. She sat down on the foot of her bed after changing and held her head in her hands. "Could I actually bring myself to kill an elf" She asked herself. She couldn't bare the thought as she held no hatred toward them. Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by a light tapping at her dorm door."Enter" she said as she straightened up and adjusted herself. The door opened and her friend Tazz entered the room with a giant smile on his face. Addie had met Tazz when she first joined and they bonded instantly. Tazz was forced into the military the same as her however he fell for the propaganda and was ready for his day to get in the field. "Heeey bestie" he said excitedly as he entered the room. She looked over and smiled at the sight of a friendly face. She knew she could never express her passion to him but she was ok with it that way. If he had learned about her love for Elves she knew he would turn her in immediately."Hey Tazzy,what do you think" she asked him as she got up and spun around. He whistled and clapped as he made his way to sit on her bed."Damn sis you look good in that,are you nervous" he asked. She shook her head and giggled "totally not,I mean I had a week to prepare" she replied. He laughed and shook his head "aaa Addie Addie Addie, it's ok to be nervous. Don't worry you'll still have me just on the sidelines rooting for your survival" he rambled. She hugged him before they were brought to attention by an announcement on the speaker in all the dorm rooms."The coronation will begin in 2 hours,please begin to proceed to your designated areas and remember our life long motto - humans first".
She took one last deep breath and made her way out the room. With one last embrace she said her goodbyes to her long time friend and made her way to the backstage area she was told to meet her Sergeant at.As she made her way to the stage she hears a pssst behind the mess hall. She stops to look and sees one of her commanding officers beckoning her behind the mess hall. Curious and wanting to delay the inevitable she makes her way to him."I have a present for you" he said with a big grin."A present? Wow I didn't expect that from you umm thanks" Addie stammered confused. She didn't so much as remember his name and from what she knew he didn't like females in the military so this was a big surprise."You've earned your place here and I wanted to congratulate you so follow me" he responded as he walked toward the woods behind the camp.Addie immediately knew something was up but she followed him,keeping her guard up for anything. They make their way deep into the woods and Addie's nerves were on edge."Hey I need to get to the ceremony,everyone's waiting" she said nervously."Don't worry we are here" he said as we made our way into a small clearing in the woods. Addie was not prepared for what she saw next as she froze and stared in shock. Before her two men stood with an elf bound at the wrists and gagged on his knees.
