hello!!
i'm truly sorry about the lack of updates- i'm in the middle of a levels so i've had no time for anything.
- for anyone who isn't familiar, the results i get in these determine whether i get into university so it's important.i'll be finished within the next few weeks and intend to finish the story during my summer holidays.
thank you so much for being patient.
also, i'm currently reading My Body by Emily Ratajkowski & i genuinely recommend it. the reason i'm telling you this is because she says something that i instantly felt related to Ara, and therefore perhaps people reading this, so i thought i'd share.
"It had never occurred to me that the women who gained their power from beauty were indebted to the men whose desire granted them that power in the first place. Those men were the ones in control, not the women the world fawned over. Facing the reality of the dynamics at play would have meant admitting how limited my power really was- how limited any woman's power is when she survives and even succeeds in the world as a thing to be looked at."
she says this in the wake of acknowledging being sexually assaulted while on set, filming a music video, and i think it is testament to the ways in which people are often overlooked, merely because of their desirability & how casual sexual violence is within so many institutions.
i just want to use this as a reminder that consent is forever important and always non-negotiable & if you've ever been in a situation where someone exerts their inherent power over you, or does something without consent, know it wasn't your fault & i am truly proud of you.
with love,
j x
