"Jolene? You okay?"

I look up and notice that Adam's orbs of brown are staring at me with concern. I immediately wipe away the evidence and say "yes."

"Don't lie, Jolene, please, not to me."

I tell what caused me to cry.

"So do you want to find out?"

"Find out what," I look up from his chest which I cuddled into when he asked me what happened.

"About your dad. We could go to the hospital and maybe your mom will say something or maybe it's on your records, no one can see you so you can look at them."

"Okay, just one thing.... I don't know what I feel for my mom."

"Want my thoughts?"

"Sure."

"You love her but she's hurt you so much, you're scared to admit that you love her because you feel like the second you admit it, she'll hurt you again."

"Wow that sums it up completely."

"So wanna get ready now? To go to the hospital, I mean?"

"Yeah, I don't want to wake up Olivia to borrow clothes though."

"Just go in her room, she's a heavy sleeper, she won't wake up."

"Alright," I go into the hallway and quietly open Olivia's door and tiptoe in. I get to her dresser and grab some jean shorts and a tank top. I sneak back out and close the door gently behind me.

"Told you," I jump a mile high in the air and turn around.

"Adam," I whisper/yell.

"You know that was funny. You jumped so high, I'm surprised you didn't hit the ceiling."

"Haha, very funny."

I go into the bathroom and change, also taming my hair. The odd thing about being a spirit- no bad breathe, I don't have to brush my teeth.

I go back into his room, knocking first this time. "Alright, I'm ready now."

*****

"Where would the files be?"

"In the folder in your room, your medical chart or whatever doctors call it."

"Ok. No more talking til we get back to car since people will think you've lost it."

****

There it is, my folder. Laying on my bedside table. Ok, my mom's asleep so I just have to make sure no one walks in here to see the folder flip open.

I walk up to the table and flip it open and quickly scan for the parents' names. Found it... Jack Donovan. I put it back and start leaving when my mom wakes up and starts crying again.

"How did I let it come to this? My poor sweet daughter, I never treated her right. I was always too busy getting money and being addicted. I'm so sorry," She turns and I swear she's looking right at me, "I'm so sorry Jolene, I really do love you and I'm sorry for not showing it. I'll get help, go into rehab, whatever, just please come back, I need you. I love you, I'm so sorry."

"I forgive you," the most surprising words that I would ever say to her come out of my mouth and the weirdest thing- they are true. I take a leap, and say something else I recently found true, "I love you mom."

Tears fall from my eyes and I walk out of the room as Adam is pretending to be a family member asking the nurses what is going on with me.

"I'm sorry sweetie but she's in the same state as before."
