First days were always the worst. But the awfulness of the first day of school couldn't compete with a first day in the middle of the school year. There was no escaping the attention it brought to you. Literally everyone knew that you were the new kid. Especially in a small town.
I stood in front of the school. It was way smaller than the last one I'd been to. Kids were walking in and others were scattered on the grass, and benches. I gripped my old brown messanger bag and began walking through people and into the school.
I only got a few confused looks, which was good. I guess. I made it into what looked to be the commons. The first thing I noticed was not the normal blue looking carpet, but that fact that it did not smell like old cinnamon. I smiled a bit to myself.
"Hey there!" An overly excited cheerleader came up to me.
"Hello." I smiled at her.
She was only a bit shorter than me, super thin, and had big green eyes.
"Are you the new girl? A-vine?" She asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"It's A-VEEN and yes, I'm the new one." I bit the inside of my cheek.
"Oh sorry. I wasn't sure. Any way. Welcome! Need any help with finding your classes?" She smiled, big.
"Uh, no I think I can handle it. Thanks though." I lightly laughed.
"Okay, well I am Ashley. If you have any questions just feel free to ask, okay?" She waited for an answer.
"Oh yeah, thank you." I nodded.
She nodded back and wondered off.
I let out a sigh. My phone buzzed. I pulled it out I had a text from Jake and June.
From Jake:
Good luck. You'll do great :) Miss you loads already :/To Jake:
Thank you! :) I miss you more xxFrom June:
How many cute guys?Only a second passed before another text came in.
From June:
And also hows it going so far??I smiled, typical June.
To June:
I haven't been scoping then out yet. And I've only talked to one person. The school is tiny though."If you wanted cute guys you should've gone to the high school down the road." Someone said behind me.
I jumped a little, and turned around. A girl, about five inches taller than me, with long brown messy hair pulled over one shoulder stood there.
"Uhh.." Was all I said.
"Daisy." She stuck out her hand, I shook it, "Sorry for snooping over your shoulder. Some people have a habbit of biting their nails or popping their fingers. I snoop."
I nodded, "I'm Avinne."
"Different name. I like. Wheres your schedule?" She asked, stepping closer.
I noticed her eyes were like a blue-green mix. I looked away to pull my schedule out of my pocket and hand it to her.
"We've got World Religion, and yoga together." She handed it back.
I only nodded, placing the paper back in my pocket.
"Well, unless you've got plans, you can sit with me and my crew at lunch." She raised her eyebrows.
