The two companions had made it through most of the forest, making it to the clearing that Bakugou and Kirishima had found before. By this time, the two only had about an hour of daylight, so making quick work, they decided to have a fire and catch something to cook for their dinner. It also gave them a chance to use the river water again, this time to clean Midoriya's wound and to make sure it was healing fine.
While Midoriya was wrapping his side back up and putting his shirt back on, Bakugou was skinning and cleaning a rabbit he was able to catch. The task made sure he focused on something other than the half-naked guy he wanted to be his mate.
Soon, the rabbit was skewered over the fire, and the two sat around waiting for it to be done cooking. They tried making small talk, though it was back to being awkward and short. There was, however, something that Midoriya did want to discuss.
"Hey, you said you came looking for me to say that the elders were all gone and could go back to the clan, but that can't be the only reason for you to come personally. So, what else did you have to say?" He asked. He watched Bakugou closely and noticed the slight pause in his movements before shifting around.
"What makes you think that?" Bakugou asked, obviously avoiding answering the question. Midoriya stared at him for a good few minutes, watching him squirm from being stared at.
"Because the great Bakugou Katsuki doesn't do anything without a reason. You could have easily left after telling my mom, and she would have told me. Instead, you continued North to find me directly, meaning there is something you have to tell me and only me." Midoriya said, not looking away from Bakugou.
Bakugou didn't look away, he couldn't with the look in the omega's eyes. This omega who could fight and take down monsters, who could stand up for himself and even talk back to alphas. He surpassed everything Bakugou had done to him and came out the other side stronger.
He knew he had to do this right if he wanted any chance to not only make things right but to have any chance to court Midoriya and be mates.
Standing up, Bakugou made his way around the fire to where Midoriya sat, took his sword and sat it down on the ground, and kneeled down so that his head was lower than Midoriya's. It was an act of submission only done by alphas who were able to set their pride aside to apologize for something they did wrong, and it usually was only towards the alpha's mate.
"I know this might be too late and that I should have done this years ago. I apologize for not only harming you physically but also in other ways in the past. I should have stood up to the elders and the pack for shunning you, and as the next in line for chief, I failed you and the others by ignoring the actions that forced you to leave. Lastly, I have failed as an alpha. My actions can't be replaced nor can a simple apology fix everything that I have done, but I hope that you will allow me to prove that I am a better person now and eventually a good alpha." Bakugou said, his head stayed down the whole time and his voice sincere.
Through all that was said, Midoriya sat calmly and took in every word. He knew Bakugou wouldn't lower himself unless he absolutely meant his sincerity, and it was this that struck him to his core. Tears ran down his face, ones that he refused to let loose for the last seven years. He never thought that he would be apologized to for everything that happened to him; maybe to his mom and the others but never to him. He was also confused about why Bakugou was apologizing to him like he was his mate.
"Ka- Bakugou, please sit up," Midoriya said, sniffing a bit. He didn't miss the flinch this time of him calling the other by his last name. Bakugou lifted his head up to see the tear stained face of the omega, and a sting ran through him again. Before he could say or do anything, Midoriya continued to talk. "Thank you for apologizing, though I'm confused on why you felt you had to lower yourself when I'm not your mate. I'm sure they would not appreciate the action if your mate was here, so please sit up."
