It was a random Wednesday in the beginning of October. Hailey had stayed in school after their last period and was anxiously waiting for Lawrence to walk past her. She knew he had soccer practice after school so she had strategically placed herself somewhere she knew he would walk past, without making it too obvious that she had been waiting there just for him.
"Hi Lawrence!" Hailey smiled as he walked by her just like she had anticipated. "What are you doing today?"
"I have soccer practice, what about you?" Lawrence answered and she nodded as if she had no idea about that.
"Nothing. I was just thinking that maybe you could come over to mine after your practice" she had her almost terrifyingly wide smile across her lips and it was obvious that she was filled with hope.
"Sure" Lawrence replied scratching his neck. "But Maddy and Kay should come too!"
"Oh... I was thinking it could be just the two of us. Like a date?" his eyes widened so she started laughing nervously. "That was a joke! I'm funny like that, I mean of course they can come too! The more the merrier."
"Cool, did you have anything in mind for us to do?" he asked with his arms crossed.
"Uhm..." Hailey was looking around for the hallway and saw a movie poster. "How about a movie night?"
"Sounds good as long as I'm picking the movie" he said with a smile and she smiled back at him.
"Deal!"
When Lawrence had walked out of sight she started jumping up and down. Finally, Hailey Mayers had gotten enough courage to ask Lawrence Franco out. It had only taken her a year, but at last she was going on a date with the love of her life. Nothing in the world could ruin this... except for the part where it wasn't just going to be the two of them there.
Hailey called Madison and made her come over to hers right away. It wasn't out of the ordinary for Madison to come over to Hailey's. She came over at least once a week but usually more than that. Madison thought they were just going to hangout like usual but that wasn't really the case. They were going to figure out this whole movie night situation.
"So you know that I like Lawrence and have been thinking of asking him out" Hailey began explaining as Madison walked through the door. "Well, today was the day I finally did it - I asked him out!"
"What did he say?" Madison asked hesitantly.
"Yes! He said yes, Maddy! Lance is coming over to watch a movie with me tonight, but there is a small catch" Madison listened to her patiently. "He thinks you and Kayden will join us. So it will be more like a double date, kind of."
"A double date? You do know that Kay doesn't swing that way, right?" Madison replied with a wrinkle in between her brows.
"No, I know. So I guess it's not like a double date. But you need to help me get Lawrence alone with me" Hailey started to explain her plan. "I was thinking that you could fake like a headache or something and leave early. Then you can ask Kayden to walk you home?"
Madison had a feeling this was a terrible plan but she didn't have a choice but to go along with it. Hailey had already invited Lawrence and Kayden over. They would be showing up at the apartment in just a few hours. It was too late for Madison to do anything about it.
"We should have popcorn at home and I think there is some soda in the fridge. So we are pretty much all set!" Hailey said as she was puffing up the pillows on the couch to make it look better even though it didn't make too much of a difference.
"What movie are we watching? I really want to see the new Avengers movie that just came out on Disney+" Madison was stopped by Hailey.
"Sorry, but I already promised Lance that he could pick what movie we're watching and it's not like you're going to be watching the entire thing anyways. You and Kay are leaving - remember?" she sounded a bit rude.
Madison didn't even bother replying. Instead she sat down on a chair by the dining table and unlocked her phone. She had a few text messages from Lawrence. He was wondering if she was going to come so she replied that she already was there. Then she put her phone back into the pocket of her jeans.
"Where's your family tonight?" Madison asked noticing that they still weren't home by 7 pm.
"They are at granny and grandpa's and they're going to stay the night" Hailey sounded way too excited about this. "And you know how much I hate sleeping alone. So if everything goes according to plan there will be a boy in my bed tonight!"
"Is that really a good idea?" the more details Hailey told Madison about the plans the more they were starting to scare her.
"Don't worry, Maddy! This is the best idea I have had in my entire life" she replied smilingly before getting a notification on her phone and picked it up. "The boys are picking up pizza on the way. What do you want?"
"Uh... I don't really care, we can share something" Madison answered as Hailey texted them back.
"Are you sure? I'm getting a Hawaiian and you don't even like pineapple on pizza" Hailey said unsurely.
"It's fine. I can just pick them off"
The boys arrived about half an hour later with the pizzas. Hailey and Madison hugged them welcome and Lawrence handed over the pizza boxes to Hailey so he could take off his light blue denim jacket. He tried to make eye contact with Madison without being too obvious about it.
"Hailey? Could you and Kay start cutting up the pizzas?" Lawrence asked and they did as he said, which left Madison alone with him by the entrance. "Please tell me Hailey does not think this is a date!"
"If only you knew" Madison whispered with a mean laughter before explaining everything to him.
