Vaani's Pov

'Agastya.'

'Yah...' He hummed.

'You know when I was kid I thought attending school everyday was a great thing. So when it used to rain heavily, my mom didn't allow me to go to school despite all my rebels. That's why I kind of despised rainy season.'

'But now I think you love rainy season.' He said, now standing beside me, leaning against the railing and facing me.

'Correct. Rain is a two faced beauty. It is refreshing but at the same time gloomy too.'

'Uh huh. But I can't say the same thing about myself. When I was a kid, I used to get really excited when it poured down heavily because I didn't have to go to school. So, I loved rainy days.' He replied, chuckling.

'Wow !'

'Agastya....' I called again.

'Yah.' He replied, smiling slightly.

'What's there to smile ?'

'Well, you called me an awful number of times today you know. While shopping too, Agastya this, Agastya that.'

'Oh !'

'Umm...can I ask you something ?' I asked.

'Sure.'

'Do you have a girlfriend ? Or are you in any sort of commited relationship ?'

'That was out of blue. But no.' He replied, staring outside at the rain which was falling heavily now.

'Agastya, I know we got married at the time when we didn't want to settle down but I don't understand the reason behind the contract. I mean yah, I too signed because I didn't want to get married at that time but now that I think about it we could have got a divorce if our marriage didn't work out you know.'

'What do you mean Vaani ?' He questioned, looking back at me.

'Agastya umm......'

'Vaani.'

'I mean can't we make our marriage work ?'

'What ? We signed a contract Vaani.'

'Yah, but....'

'No buts Vaani.' He replied, sternly.

'Agastya, I don't understand. I mean it's not like we have any special person waiting for us to go back to them.'

'Vaani... don't say you fell in love with me.'

'What ? No.'

I continued, 'As a human being, work buddy and maybe as a friend too, I like you Agastya. So....'

'No.' He said.

'Can I ask why ?'

When he didn't reply, I said, 'Sorry for overstepping my boundaries.'

I turned around to leave when he called me, 'Vaani.'

'Since you are my wife, no matter for one year or countless, I feel like you deserve to know the reason.' He said.

'Okay.' I went and stood beside him. The sound of rain echoed their way into my ears.

He continued, 'There were two people whom I trusted blindly apart from my parents. Rudra Sen and Pragya Chatterjee. Rudra was my bestfriend since school days. We went to the same collage too. And Pragya, she was my first serious girlfriend during my collage days. They were like a family whom I could rely on you know, when I was away from my parents. But then I found out that my girlfriend was cheating on me with none other than my bestfriend. You know if they told me that they liked each other, I would have accepted. Maybe it would have a bit awkward at first but then maybe it would have been ok too. And the worst thing was when I confronted my bestfriend precisely, he said that he was always jealous of my achievements and he just pretended to be my friend to gain attention and same goes for Pragya.'

'Well, it's really in the past but since then I didn't really make bestfriends you know. Like I do have friends but no bestfriends on whom I can rely on. A relationship requires not only love but trust too. And I can't guarantee that. Trust. Also my insecurities may cause a huge misunderstanding. So it's better this way.'

'Everyone has insecurities Agastya. We can...'

'Vaani.....you are a nice person.' He said, cutting me off in the middle.

Our eyes met, but he broke it off.

'So you won't mind if I go on a date, marry someone else after our arrangement is over ?' I questioned.

'Vaani, I am tired. Good night.'

'You didn't answer Agastya.' I said looking at his retreating figure.

'Don't fall in love with me Vaani.' Saying so he went inside the room.
