(A/N: I would like to sincerely apologize for how long this took, I know I said a week but it has been SO long and I'm genuinely sorry for how long it's been since I updated in general. As an apology I will update at least three times a week for the next month, maybe longer. But again, I'm soso sorryy 😭. I have an extremely erratic posting schedule, but there was a person who requested this so I should have put this out so much sooner which is unaccceptable on my end.)

(this was requested by yuuuukkkkkiii, hope you enjoy <3.)

(Things to note: Lowkey depressing asfff, this will be in third person with gender neutral pronouns)

Sweat dripped down their brow as their hands trembled, white-knuckled as their fingernails dug into their palms. The worn leather of the blade began to slip from their grasp as they continued to hold the sword against the enemy before them. Their heavy breaths mixed with the foul stench of the brooding lawachurl as it pushed against the sword. The weight was unbearable, like trying to walk against the strongest gusts of wind.

The lawachurl jumped back, its eyes stalked Y/n as if a predator waiting to pounce on its prey. And they were.

Y/n was supposed to meet Hu Tao at a new restaurant that opened in Liyue Harbor, that was 30 minutes ago. Now they were here, fighting for their life against a bloodthirsty lawachurl. Hu Tao had most likely gone home ages ago, sleeping peacefully in her bed without a care in the world, besides being stood up by her best friend.

Suddenly, the lawachurl charged at Y/n at full speed with no intention of stopping. They were exhausted, and they could barely move a muscle. In a desperate struggle, they tried sprinting out of the way, only for their legs to give out. What happened next was a blur, an immense, sharp pain shot throughout their body as they were thrown onto a sharp rock.

The sword slipped from their hand and fell to the earth with a piercing ring that seemed to echo endlessly. The blood-soaked tip of the rock impaled their abdomen, the taste of iron filled their mouth as they gasped for air. An earpiercing shriek rang out through the atmosphere as the lawachurl crumbled to its feet.

"Oh my God.. Y/n!?" A familiar voice spoke in a panic, the person rushed to their side, placing a hand to their forehead. Y/n could vaguely make out the bright red flower pinned to the black cap on the unknown's head. Hu Tao.

"Hu Tao..? Why are you here?" It was difficult to talk, the blood seemed to fill their throat, pooling their lungs.

"A-After you didn't show up at the restaurant I went to your place.." Hu Tao croaked, tears welled up in her eyes and spilled onto Y/n's pale complexion. Hu Tao's hands shook violently, covered in blood after trying to lift Y/n from the rock. They cried out in pain as they threw their hand up to stop her. This was it.

"Stop-Hu Tao.. I can't.." They rasped, gasping abruptly and coughing up the blood that pooled in their mouth.

"No.. I-If I can just..!" Hu Tao choked, soft sobs emitted from her lips as she held her palms to her forehead, "God please.." She mumbled, her head fell to their side.

Their eyelids began to feel heavy, their lips opening and closing like a fish out of water.

FLASHBACK

The person creeped up behind Hu Tao, careful not to get caught. They cupped their hands around their eyes and snickered.

"Guess who?~" Y/n crooned, a wide grin on their face that she couldn't see. Hu Tao rolled her eyes as she pushed away the person's hands.

"Come on, don't mess around like that! What if it wasn't me and you got beat up by some random guy?" Hu Tao scolded, but deep down she loved it. Y/n's playful nature always made a bad day ten times better.

"If I died then you would be forced to give me a discount!" Y/n shrugged with a dramatic sigh, a sly smirk on her face. Hu Tao hated when Y/n joked like that, she didn't want to think about their death.

Y/n noticed her change in demeanor as Hu Tao turned her head to the side, her brows were furrowed. They leaned over, tilting their head with a sympathetic look.

"Hey.. Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere." They grinned as they rubbed Hu Tao's shoulder. Hu Tao chuckled softly, pushing a stray hair out of her face.

"Yeah, I know."

END OF FLASHBACK

"...Hey, what do you say about that discount?" They managed to muster up a small smirk, fighting to keep their eyes open. Hu Tao giggled, but it wasn't out of humor. It felt like being struck in the heart to say goodbye like this. But it had to be done.

"Yeah.. I can do that." She smoothed out Y/n's hair, the sweat making it stick to their forehead. Y/n closed their eyes, a peaceful smile on their face as they sighed.

"Thanks..."
