"There's no hope or luck unless you look for it."

As I woke up I couldn't help but feel strange, i've already decided I'm going to volunteer. I've been trained ever since I could remember. I've been trained to win the games, but I don't want to. I don't want to survive and have to live with the guilt or the fact that people will only love me if I win.

I had no choice but to reluctantly get up. I believe there's really no point in the reaping when your in the career districts, it's not like the person being chosen will actually go someone always volunteers.

I got up and I picked out my outfit. I chose a light floral dress. I've been told not only by my parents but by many people that to win you have to get people to like you. And as a district 1 girl I guess that's means being all girly. I don't really mind much about that it's really the fact that I have to pretend to be someone else just for people to like me.

I tried to clear my head and I headed into the shower. I took a bit of extra time since I at least had to look some what presentable. All of Panem will see I volunteered and I will be in the spotlight since in district 1. Others from other districts don't try as hard for the reaping since there's a small chance of them being chosen but the career districts don't have much of a choice, I mean of course unless you want everyone to think you don't care.

It was around 9:00 and the reaping began at noon so I had a bit of time before it actually started. I went downstairs and saw my parents, Marina and James. "Oh finally your getting ready, I was afraid I would have to go and wake you up myself."  My mother said. Yeah I wasn't feeling that well. I replied avoiding eye contact. "Well y/n you have a big day ahead of you so you should finish getting ready breakfast is almost ready." My father said. I gave a light smile and made my way back to my bedroom.

"All this for what." I said to myself. At least I'll be the career district so I basically have guaranteed survival for at least a week or so until the real games begin. I did a  makeup look making sure to take my time. I don't want to embarrass myself, plus if I look somewhat decent I will have a high probability of getting sponsors.

I threw on some jewelry and put on some perfume as I heard my mother call me. "Y/N BREAKFAST IS READY!" She shouted all the way from downstairs. It gave me a second to think, whenever careers win they really win nothing. Only glory, and that only lasts a while. We have everything there's nothing to win. But yet everything to loose. I look myself in the mirror one last time. As sane as I'll ever be.

I walk quickly down the stairs, almost a little to quick that I almost tripped. Lucky me, my mother saw it I'll definitely be getting a lecture now. I sat down as our maid served us, "don't serve her too much, she will look too bloated for the cameras." My mother said. The maid just nodded. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at my mother. She doesn't ever care about me. Only herself.

I was slowly eating since I had lost my appetite to the stress. "Y/n you have to be more careful." My mother said sounding mad. About? I asked concernedly. "Imagine if you were to trip during your interview or the reaping or anywhere where the whole of Panem could see you, that would be embarrassing for us!" She said scolding me. "She right, don't make a bad impression, it effects us just as much as it effects you." My father added. Sorry I was rushing that's why. I said embarrassed. "It's alright just finish getting ready we're leaving soon.

1 hour later

It was 11, although the reaping doesn't started until 12 we have to get checked in and everything. I look around and everyone's smiling. They all know that they won't die, they know that one way or another someone's volunteering for them. Wether it's their parents paying money for people to volunteer or just them wanting glory. They get to live.
