Monster (Marceline x Marshall Lee)

Chapter 4

*Marceline's POV*

I hate that Marshall Lee guy. He's trying so hard just to get on my nerves. He obviously thinks a lot of himself. I'm in the bathroom at Fionna's place. I look in the mirror.

I've always secretly disliked the way I look. Most people would say I'm pretty confident, but deep down, there's no one I dislike more than myself.

I stare at myself. "Why am I so ugly?" I say to myself. There's a knock at the door. I open it to see Finn staring at me looking like he's terribly sad about something.

"You're not ugly." He says. "You're really pretty!" He blushes.

"I don't know. I guess." Crap. He knows about my insecurity. Fionna walks up with a curious expression on her face.

"Wanna go outside and look at the sunset?" She says more to Finn than me, but Finn grabs my hand and drags me along with them. As I go outside, I catch a glimpse of Marshall Lee floating around, kind of looking depressed. I see him look over at me out of the corner of my eye and start to come over.

What if he thinks I like him? I have to think fast. Quickly, I turn to Finn and give him a small kiss on the cheek. Finn blushes madly, and I notice Marshall Lee stops in his tracks. He looks even more depressed than before.

Is that jealousy? Couldn't be.. I can tell Fionna is jealous though. She gives Finn a look as though she wants him to tell me to go away. Finn rubs his cheek a little and says, "Woah." Fionna runs off angrily.

To my surprise, Marshall Lee turns around and starts to leave. Why do I kinda want him to stay? I get up and say to Finn, "I'll be right back. How about you go find Fionna? She seemed like something was wrong." Finn wakes up from the daze he's in and notices Fionna's absence.

"Uh yeah, okay!" He gets up and runs off looking for her. I trail behind Marshall Lee slowly, hoping he doesn't turn around and see me. Suddenly, he stops and sits by a tree. He puts his head in his hands and stays like that for a couple minutes. I notice he starts to shake a little.

Glob, I can't believe I'm about to do this. I slowly go over to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He waits a few seconds and then looks at me. His eyes are red and there are tear stains on his cheeks. "Are you okay...?" I ask.

He quickly wipes his face with his hands and says, "Yeah. I-I'm fine." Immediately after, he gets up and leaves. The sunset is over, so I decide I better go figure out where I'll be staying until we go back to Ooo. I turn and see Finn comforting Fionna. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to ask to stay with them. I decide to go to the Candy Kingdom.
