it was december 24, 1975, marking exactly six months after george and my untimely split. the infidelities had become a bit too much for me, and divorce was our safest option.i had met someone else. his name was wes lancelot. wes and i had met through a mutual friend and had been dating pretty steadily since then. however, one thing i found completely interesting was that wes and george were actually friends. they weren't super close, but they had known each other decently. so, it was only right that wes invited george over along with a few of our other friends for christmas eve dinner.
i stayed in the kitchen finishing up the cooking while wes set the table before the bell rang, "ahh that must be our first guest! who do you think it'll be? the mackenzies? the gariners? the chances? the solas?" wes chuckled doing a little dance to the door.
"beats me." i laughed a bit, washing the dishes as i kept an eye on the oven.
wes opened the door to be face to face with george. he stood there presenting a bottle of wine with a smile on his bearded face, "hello wesley! this is for you and the mrs'." he joked with a wink.
"hello george!" wes smiled, hugging him as he took the bottle from him, "thank you for this. come in! julia's just in the kitchen finishing up the cooking. please make yourself at home. the others should be heading here soon." he gleamed.
"thank you. where should i leave my coat and shoes?" george asked, glancing into the kitchen from where he was to see my back facing him.
"there's a coat rack down that hall next to the front door, there's a basket for shoes there too. i'm going to run upstairs to change. if julia needs anything, don't hesitate to help. she's a bit clumsy." he chuckled as george laughed, going to put his coat and shoes away. after he did that, and he noticed wes was upstairs, he came into the kitchen.
"hey julia." he spoke as i stopped the water, turning slightly around.
"hello george." i smiled, drying my hands.
"need any help?" he asked taking a seat at the table.
"nope, i actually just finished. thank you though." i grinned, taking my apron and rubber gloves off.
"neat home you have here." george beamed, glancing up at me.
"thank you." i nodded with a polite smile, walking past him to the pantry to put my apron and rubber gloves away.
"so how've you been?" george asked standing up.
"i've been...fine." i replied turning around to awkwardly smile again.
"you know i haven't stopped thinking about you since we divorced." george replied while i walked a few feet away, stopping in my tracks as he said that.
"george...please don't start this." i huffed, grabbing my oven mitts, opening the oven taking the ham out. i placed it on the stove, closing the oven as george walked up behind me.
"you know it's true. does he treat you right?" he whispered as i exhaled softly,
"look- can we talk about this la-." i began before the doorbell rang.
"i'll get it!" wes exclaimed jumping down the last three steps as he opened the door to see heaps of friends and family.

as the party went on and people socialized, danced, kissed, i found myself alone in the corner of the kitchen, dusting off some crumbs into the sink as i washed the rest off my hand with the water from the sink. i nibbled on a piece of ham as george found himself inside of the kitchen moments later,
