rina sat on mark's gaming chair, her injured arm that was resting on the boy's desk was wrapped in gauze. the recent burglary at the lee household had left the entire house shaken and mark's guitar had been broken beyond repair. the events had unfolded without haechan or mrs. lee being notified yet.

refusing to go to the hospital for a checkup, rina had settled for the first aid the police had given her, considering it sufficient. however, the gauze wrapped around her arm had soaked up a considerable amount of blood, and she knew it was time to change it for a cleaner wrap. though hesitant, she knew she needed help, and the only person who could provide it at the moment was mark.

"mark... mark?" rina called out weakly, her voice barely audible.

mark, who was in his mom's room, heard the faint sound of her voice and quickly made his way back to his own room where rina was resting.

"yeah?" he replied monotonously.

"could you please help me?" rina asked, her eyes filled with pain.

the sight of her own blood made her dizzy and lightheaded.

mark's gaze shifted to her injured arm and he knew he had to act quickly.

"ahh, wait... i'll get a roll of gauze. that thing needs changing, or else you might get infected," mark said. he headed downstairs and got a small bag containing medical supplies.

returning to his room, mark told rina to sit on the bed with him, gently unwrapping the blood-soaked gauze.

rina's heart raced as mark began cleaning her wound, his touch careful and precise. the hands of a pianist is touching me, she thought.

"ouch!" rina winced in pain as mark dabbed in an antiseptic solution on her open wound without warning.

"i'm sorry, it will sting for a moment-" "endure it for a while.." mark apologized.

"the cut is way deeper than i thought", mark assessed the wound.

"it's okay, it will eventually heal", she reassured herself and mark.

"whatever you say", he replied. he was so focused on treating the wound that he didn't notice rina's gaze on him.

she couldn't deny the attraction she felt towards mark, even though it seemed forbidden. after all, he was her brother's best friend, and crossing that line could lead to complications and potential heartbreak, and plus the fact that he hates her only made it worse.

rina knew she had to confront these lingering feelings, feelings that seemed to have never truly left her.

moving on from him was one that felt almost impossible to achieve.

amidst the tension of the situation, mark gently finished dressing her wound, he looked into rina's eyes, noticing a shift in her expression.

time seemed to stand still.

rina's heart raced even more, and her breath caught in her throat.

it felt like vines were snaking the insides of her throat.

rina could feel her body trembling, her mind torn between the exhilaration of surrendering to her feelings and the fear of the consequences that would surely follow.

she wanted him to kiss the pain away, badly, desperately, just like the old times.

he looked perfect in her eyes, and she must exert all her strength of resolve to refrain from kissing him. his crow ish hair and side-swept bangs that complimented his well-sculpted face; the eyeglasses framed his deep, penetrating eyes, intensifying their allure. he was dressed in a fitted charcoal gray button-down shirt that hugged his incredibly toned physique. the top button was left undone, revealing a glimpse of his strong collarbone. his sleeves were rolled up neatly, exposing his strong forearms.

this man is dreamy in all ways there is possible.

rina had shied away from mark's gaze. she was now looking at everywhere but him.

"avoid moving your arm and hand while it heals."

mark finished up the wound and stands up, leaving her alone again.

haechan immediately returned home after receiving a call from mark, bombarding rina with an abundance of questions.

"rina! how are you? did they hurt you? how's mark? who did th–"

rina raised a hand to stop the onslaught of questions, her voice was calm but firm. "one by one, hyuck. let me answer each question before moving on to the next."

mark, who was leaning casually against the doorframe, interrupted before haechan could respond.

"hyuck, dude, she's fine. i already treated her wound, so no need to fret."

haechan's hand instinctively flew to his mouth, but he managed to say "thanks, hyung."

however, haechan's attention was diverted when he noticed a spider descending from the ceiling in mark's room. he pointed at it like a kid being given balloons. "whoa, did you see that?"

rina and mark exchanged looks, then to haechan, and the spider, understanding the boy's tendency to get distracted. they quickly refocused his attention back to the urgent matter at hand as mark began to explain the unsettling situation that had occurred while he was gone.

he revealed that the individual who unlawfully entered the residence is from another country. "lucas, a hong konger, is a fugitive in his hometown of sha tin due to a drug-related incident", he disclosed.

haechan's eyes widened, shock overtaking his features, "what? how did this happen?"

"we're safe now. the intruder is in the hands of the police, and security measures are being heightened as a result of this incident", rina answered for him.

"does mom know about this?"

rina hesitated, "not yet," she confessed. "i don't want to worry her while she's away. we'll inform her once they're back in korea."

understanding the reasoning behind rina's decision, haechan nodded in agreement. "okay, i won't say anything until then. we'll handle it together."
