" he was sunshine ...... she was midnight rain "
DAPHNE IGLESIAS was a liar and a cheat, but not without reason.
On the surface, Daphne had simply portrayed herself as a hardworking, social girl who was well accustomed to her responsibilities and had the skills to take care of herself and manage her duties. To be fair, it wasn't all a lie.
By day, she was aiming for being top of her Sophomore class at the prestigious Brooklyn Visions Academy and attempting to stay as involved in the school as possible in order to forge "friendships" and supply a healthy list of extracurriculars to her transcript. She was making her own name, obviously. If that meant cheating on all her tests and secretly sabotaging classmates who were doing better than her...
oops?
Anyways, by night, she was obeying her boss at her perfectly normal part-time job: wiping the streets of Brooklyn with Spiderman's head. To be honest, she didn't really understand nor care about the feud between Spiderman and King Pin, all she knew was what Kingpin had promised her.
Reality had a habit of kicking Daphne's ass, and she desperately needed the power to control it-- an ability that only Kingpin's big gun thingy could provide for her. To her, it was screw Spiderman and his stupid "time and space and continuation" bullcrap. What did he know about loss anyways?
Besides, calling Spiderman a "hero" always seemed an exaggeration to Daphne. This stupid city was a wasteland, full of cages and fences– housing the most obnoxious pageant queens and great pretenders the world had ever seen. So please, did the Big Apple really need saving?
Atleast, that's what she'd heard from King Pin– someone whose authority you don't question, no matter what. So if the big guy asked her to kick Spiderman's face in every time he got involved with one of his projects, who was Daphne to oppose? All in all, Daphne only needed to do two things to ensure a content Sophomore year.
Distract Spiderman long enough to make her dream's a reality (literally) and get all A's this semester to make the Dean's list.
The funny thing about reality though, it currently seemed to obey an entity other than Daphne. When she started the week showing the charming new kid with big eyes and an even bigger smile around the school, she had assumed everything was on track to a good year. The last thing she expected was to show up Friday morning pretending that she hadn't just witnessed Spiderman's death the night before and ignoring the pit in her stomach telling her it was her fault.
